Automation isn't difficult to achieve anymore, except in manufacturing. Nobody prefers a Walmart to a local grocer. But the grocer can't beat the subsidized, market-controlling monopoly of Walmart. True. However, income inequality usually hinders starting small businesses especially as some of the causes of inequality like monopolies, rent seeking, money hoarding, etc do so.
