This is why he is the patron saint of America, but he had no idea it would turn out that way. He didn't try to make himself into that, quite the opposite, that came about retrospectively, long after his death.
Lincoln was cast in the forge of Douglas; and martyred while war still raged. Greatness was thrust upon him, and he seemed willing to take risks to avoid botching it all up. We could quickly name, how many, 40 or 41 other POTUSs who would have gone MacArthur on Steroids given the same opportunity.
Abe:
The Bible says somewhere that we are desperately selfish. I think we would have discovered that fact without the Bible.
He's the greatest American who ever lived, no doubt in my mind, but yes, saved by his own martyrdom indeed, if Lincoln had lived, and had been forced to cut a deal, his greatness would be hugely diminished, but that is why he is the Christ of the Union, rather than hang around in mortal coil and all its vulgarities, he rose away off to heaven, to sit at the foot of the Lord.

Better read it now because it will probably be gone tomorrow.
p.s. That's FIFTH largest with a fucking boycott going on. Count the "100 Billion Women March" in the turnout, and Trump wins HAND'S DOWN!
Why will it be gone tomorrow? I'm not clear on the point you are making... All the article points out is that no matter how you slice & dice the facts & data, Trump had lower attendance than Obama.
The reason I'm asking is because you said, " lots of new hits come up from anti-Trump news organs with really negative slants on attendance. I DID find this however."
You found another article agreeing that attendance was lower. Lots of those around.
For the millionth time, Kath, the argument is not, and never has been that Trump's turnout was greater than Obama's.
Actually, that was exactly what kicked this off.

Standing next to a video screen that showed the crowd from President Trump’s vantage point, Spicer insisted that media outlets had “intentionally framed” their photographs to minimize its size. After attacking journalists for sharing unofficial crowd-size estimates—“no one had numbers,” he said—he proceeded to offer a categorical claim of his own. “This was the largest audience ever to witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe,” he said, visibly outraged. “These attempts to lessen the enthusiasm of the inauguration are shameful and wrong.”
He may have had a point, if he could cite some television ratings or something, but he didn't. He just ranted about some photos and called everybody liars.

It seems like our president is more interested in winning a popularity contest then running the country. He already won the job now he should do the job instead of talking about how awesome and popular he is

You guys are living in an
alternative reality where the press doesn't lie to you every day or something.
The rest of us are sick of the lies and propaganda.

I'm actually starting to worry that he was serious about setting up a shadow government with the VP. He's too clowny to be real, at this point...

The way to solve a lying press is not to create a lying white house. The White House lies often enough as it is they shouldn't lie about s*** that we can go falsify with a 20 second Google search

Kath wrote:What's been happening around here is we are trying to point out that alternative facts are not an actual thing and people keep timing in about how Trump actually did have more numbers than Obama. This is demonstrable efal sing you all admit it but still keep thinking it's okay for the White House Press Secretary to lie about something so obviously demonstrably false.
Not a single forum member has timed in with "Trump had bigger numbers than Obama", not even once. You lie.

Talking about how awesome and popular you are is critical to doing any political job, that's what politics is all about, which politcians spend their time asserting how much they suck and how unpopular they are; none that I know of.
Democracy is a popularity contest, popularity is the arm of decision therein.

Kath is under the delusion that people would reward Trump for not talking himself up and putting down his opponents. If he just used kid gloves she thinks the electorate would love him.
