Whether something is a public good or not is irrelevant to the question of how the good is paid for.Kath wrote:I know what a public good is, Fife. Go read up on public goods. I've only begged you to do this about 100 times.
National defense, for example. A public good that gets paid for by _________________.
(You fill in the blank, please.)
If we disband the IRS and repeal the Sixteenth Amendment, neither muh roads nor muh helicopters magically disappear.
I know that you throw a tantrum when I try to help the discussion by saying "go read this," and I'm not unsympathetic. Here's something I googled in 10 seconds, and didn't even read. If you want to read it, I will also, and we can discuss whatever points it brings up.
EDIT: here's the link, sorry. It was the first hit for "how do we pay for public goods without taxes" : https://www.progress.org/articles/without-taxes

So, the plan is to live on the ashes of empire? Why aren't we all speaking Vizigoth then?Fife wrote:Whether something is a public good or not is irrelevant to the question of how the good is paid for.Kath wrote:I know what a public good is, Fife. Brilliant.
You can disband the whole Roman Empire and their roads won’t disappear either. You can drown a sculptor and their statues don’t turn to dust.
Clearly sculptors are unnecessary for the making of statues because you can get rid of them and our statues will still be here.
How did we miss that?
