I'm sure it will be worth the fortunes spent and the mass casualties that go with it... cause they might nuke us unprovoked...

Great strategy...

  • Under the rule of Kim Jong-Un, North Korea remains among the world’s most repressive countries. All basic freedoms have been severely restricted under the Kim family’s political dynasty.

A 2014 UN Commission of Inquiry found that abuses in North Korea were without parallel in the contemporary world. They include extermination, murder, enslavement, torture, imprisonment, rape, forced abortions, and other sexual violence. North Korea operates secretive prison camps where perceived opponents of the government are sent to face torture and abuse, starvation rations, and forced labor. Fear of collective punishment is used to silence dissent.

There is no independent media, functioning civil society, or religious freedom.

These are the rational actors you want to trust with a world-annihilating stockpile of nuclear weapons.
Because stopping them now will cost lives.

And I thought I was bad at math.

That pep talk got me all riled up.
I've packed my rucksack and am headed to NK to poke Kim in the eye...
Because of the children.

Thanks, mate!

Nah, you're smart enough to play the long game. You know if you're wrong, and your kids or grand kids wind up answering to a nuclear NK that decided to take the world with it when the regime collapsed, you'll be long gone. They might wonder why this generation or the three before it allowed things to get to that point, but it's not like they can force you to answer for it.

Here's the great irony about the left - they'll scream themselves red about "environmental dangers" because the children deserve a safe planet. Nuclear prison/rape nation North Korea accumulating the arms to exterminate all life though? Not a peep.

Please let us topple this regime...
This time you will thank us...

All those other times when it turned into a giant mess, those were unfortunate incidents... miscalculations... honest mistakes... how could we have known?

This time... it's gonna be great. Plus I'm almost sure there is no other way.

Uhhhh.... no thanks.

That is indeed rational if you're main ability to hold onto power rests on denying your citizens the ability to compare their own quality of life, liberties, etc. to those of neighbouring countries. It would be even more rational to simply shoot the dissidents. The regime spends money and ressources on keeping prison inmates alive, after all.

Sixty five years of 'other ways' have only produced a more dangerouss NK able to threaten the world.
Your plan is to continue to do nothing.
That's fine.

Pretty sure NK isn't giving up it's insurance policy against regime change. While they've still got nukes nothing is solved.
Best case scenario is NK gets recognised as a legitimate nation by the US in return for a halt to weapons testing.
Worst case they start calling each other names again and the talks end very quickly.
The worst case is WWIII with SK and/or Japan getting nuked as the spark of it.

It also creates a world view that prevents one from acting rationally with respect to those outside the system.
