Re: North Korea News
They’ll suspend testing ... until they need more stuff, or have to show force to maintain domestic tranquility, and then it’ll be nuke tests and island shelling all over again.
Not like we haven’t seen 65 years of this play out already.
Just topple that regime already, before they have enough nuclear warheads to annihilate us.

When have I heard "just topple that regime already"... and it worked out nice and tidy?
Iraq? Afghanistan? Libya? Vietnam? Guatemala? Iran?
No... I'm sure it's happened... just can't quite remember....
Wait, I should probably google this....

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Good one!Montegriffo wrote:There was Grenada but that was a bit rude 'cos they were supposed to be our bitch not theirs.
Probably it would be just like Grenada... overthrowing a military junta that had taken over the country that same year...
How long has North Korea been under the Kim Regime... 50 years?
The people should be pretty receptive to the intervention... not much brainwashing could have happened.
Nice and tidy.

I know it’s not a popular sentiment.
I know the reactionary response from leftists is to claim war is always a miserable failure even though the entire existence of limousine liberals is facilitated by the wars we’ve won.
So I’ll simply ask - what is your answer to NK stockpiling nuclear weapons between now and the day they possess enough to annihilate the planet?
We’ve done sixty-five years of peacenikism. Explain to me how we achieve a nuclear-disarmed North Korea by continuing.

Just found the transcript of the phone call between Thatcher and Reagan when he had to fess up to invading a commonwealth country without even asking first.

President Reagan:
As I say, I'm sorry for any embarrassment that we caused you, but please understand that it was just our fear of our own weakness over here with regard to secrecy.
Prime Minister Thatcher:
It was very kind of you to have rung, Ron.

Out of the suite of options, I would choose not to "just topple the regime already".
I reserve the right to change my mind if they actually bomb someone.
I would say any solution to a problem that involves mass slaughter of the inhabitants of that nation and it's neighbour is one worth shelving until absolutely necessary.

Do you have a choice that stops a Stalinist dictator in a frail regime from acquiring enough nuclear firepower to eliminate humanity?DrYouth wrote: Can I start with...

Because there’s no better time for a tyrant to “actually bomb someone” than when they’re sitting on enough nukes to kill everyone who looks sideways at them. It’s going to be a bit of a moot point for NK, bombing someone or not, soon enough.

What you were hoping for a shrink in middle of nowhere Canada to present you with a step by step multinational approach to containing a rogue regime?DBTrek wrote:Do you have a choice that stops a Stalinist dictator in a frail regime from acquiring enough nuclear firepower to eliminate humanity?

It's straight talk across the chasm one day at a time....

Can't really imagine Trump being a star at this kind of thing...
But maybe he'll surprise all of us.
