Yeah, it's a really eerie place. Mostly flat, with black scars across the land, and odd shaped rocks and jagged hills all about. Scrub and cactus everywhere, but snow capped mountains with pine flanking the edges. It feels real lonesome out there.

I've seen kids walking along those hot freeways, and I wondered where they were going. Plenty of weirdos living out there, cooking drugs or doing God knows what.

what is happening in Compton is actually happening here as well

like Regent Park where I grew up, it is massively gentrified in comparison now

it's some of the most prime real estate in the world, so the rich are buying up the ghetto

gangsters are still around, but most people in the area are totally pussified hipsters

most of the street contacts between gang members actually happens in the no mans land in between

Regent Park gangsters run into Alex Park gangsters downtown, in between the hoods

this is why there was a gang shooting at the Raptors victory parade

that's by the Eaton Center Mall, which is contested territory between the gangs

the gangs are moving into other locales, there are more gangsters in the downtown condos now

if there is going to be a shooting these days, it will be in the food court at the mall, or in an airbn'b

this is not to say there is no organized crime where I live

the organized crime out here in the countryside is some of the heaviest hitters of them all

Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, in an alliance with the Sicilian Cosa Nostra in Montreal, the Rizzuto crime family

but they operate at a higher level, there are no street gangs under their rule

they very rarely fight it out on the street, when they do they are very targeted

I got involved with the streets in three ways

one, dope smoking, to score weed I had to interact with the criminal element

two, in the black neighborhood, I got a job working for a ticket scalper,

in those days that was street level, with the drug dealers and the hookers

in the Italian neighborhood, I worked construction, digging ditches

and the family I worked for, they were very mobbed up, it wasn't subtle
