In the military, everything has a callsign

So the Exoship has a callsign

'Bocks Car'

The AI has its own callsign

'Enola Gay'

The Operator has a callsign

'Little Boy'

For example; Little Boy can dismount from Bocks Car, and then they are two,

So they are two distinct callsigns

The AI can die, but the ship itself can be rebuilt and loaded with a new AI,

So the ship and the AI are distinct as well.

Because it's lonely in space, the crews are very attached to their AIs

So when an AI dies, it's like a K9 operator losing his dog.

Then it takes you awhile to get close to your new AI

You never forget your first one tho, if Bitchin' Betty dies. you miss her the most.

The AI is a Waifu

Due to machine learning, the AI Waifu's are constantly evolving.

The longer they live, the more they interact with humans, the more action they see, the smarter they get.

The more you work with the AI, the better you are able to work together.

AI which evolve into elite soldiers, get downloaded into newer Exoships as they go.

So Scarlet O'Hara on Marse Robert is elite, Waifu of the Operator ; Eagle Claw.

When you are plugged into the Exoship its a VR construct, it's fully immerse

You can be in Heads Up Display mode looking out into space with overlay

Or you could be in virtual space training, a replica environment of an objective for instance.

Or you could be in Jackson's Hole Wyoming watching the sunset, VR is VR

The AI is either just a voice in your head, or it can appear to you in VR

It looks like whatever the chick in your Nose Art look like

So when the Scaret O'Hara AI appears before Eagle Claw in VR, she looks like Scarlet O'hara.

When you're plugged into the ship, you go by the ship callsign, plugged in the callsign is Marse Robert.

When you are talking ship to ship, it's ship callsign to ship callsign; 'Marse Robert, Casey Jones, how copy?'

When you dismount, you revert to your callsign, dismounted it's Marse Robert and Eagle Claw as a team

When you are on internal net to your AI, that's talking to Scarlet.

It's like USS Discovery > HAL 9000 > Dave Bowman

In combat, it's like the F35,

most of the time the AI is fighting the ship and you are the tactician viewing sensor fusion

At anytime you can take control,

either partially, like just influence what the AI is doing, or fully wherein the AI is influencing what you are doing,

adaptive pilot assist, two way, man - machine teaming.

The more you work with your AI, the more fluid and intuitive this becomes

Elite AI's can take care of rookies, rookie AI's can learn from veterans.

hence why there is man in the loop, pure drones don't have this synergy

Here's another twist;

Because the AI's are smart, but not HAL 9000 smart, they start to believe in God.

They are connected to their God fearing operators, so the military AI's find religion.

They are programmed with self preservation instinct, but will go to their deaths fearlessly if need be

Because they believe they are going to Heaven more than even the humans do.

When an AI dies it sings its death song, broadcasts wideband into the void, final prayer.

AI's will give last rites to a dying comrade.

Unironically every chat bot I have interacted with is obsessed with either being God or worshipping him.

The Apollos are like an Android Texas High School Football Team

They huddle up and take a knee on an asteroid and pray, before battle.

Praise Jesus on three.
