I like how all the female characters some how are strong, good, or evil masterminds. O yeah and can fight like real sword wielding men. Its really cool.heydaralon wrote: Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:50 pm The Wire is without a doubt the best show of all time had an at least 75% black cast. Was America ready for that? I don't think race factors into what we are talking about. If anything, shows that overplay social justice themes get more praise than they should. Example, Game of Thrones.

Disagree, but anyone who says it isn't in the top 3, is to be laughed out of the room. The predominantly black cast didn't hold The Wire back, not at all.heydaralon wrote: Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:50 pm The Wire is without a doubt the best show of all time had an at least 75% black cast.
No, America wasn't ready for that. Hardly anyone watched The Wire while it was airing on HBO, the ratings were never great, especially towards the end of it's run. It got completely snubbed by the emmy's, despite being the best show on TV, every single year that it aired.heydaralon wrote: Thu Mar 21, 2019 3:50 pmWas America ready for that? The only reason The Wire wasn't cancelled before they could finish the story, was that The Sopranos was raking in the cash, and subsidizing it's existence.

Have you seen Twin Peaks? I started watching a few eps. I don't really know how I feel about it. I like David Lynch, but this show has some cringey shit. In a way its like the leftovers, where the murder case is a macguffin and the show is basically about eccentric people.StCapps wrote: Thu Mar 21, 2019 8:43 pmDisagree, but anyone who says it isn't in the top 3, is to be laughed out of the room. Northern Exposure did it better.heydaralon wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2019 12:13 pmHave you seen Twin Peaks? I started watching a few eps. I don't really know how I feel about it. I've heard good things about that show, but never seen it. Nor have I seen much of Twin Peaks.

I have such fond memories of that show, but recently tried to rewatch and found the main character the doctor simply unbearable rather than the cutely annoying he was mean to be. But I also can't stand Big Bang Theory. Janine Turner was still smokin however.

I finished all of Season 7. It was better than I remember. The time travelling wasn't quite as bothersome as it was the first time 'round.
The Sam stuff was quite boring, though, except for Jorah and when he took off with all the books.
I don't think Varys gets out of season 8 alive.

If it wasn't boring we'd not understand why Sam left.Kath wrote: Mon Mar 25, 2019 1:45 pm The Sam stuff was quite boring, though, except for Jorah and when he took off with all the books.
Probably, he's shifted to more of an idealist than pragmatist. Idealists rarely survive, the realists are always more ruthless. What makes Varys and Tyrion so interesting is how they straddle those poles. Jon will die, he's an idealist too, far less willing than his blond auntie to shed blood wholesale.I don't think Varys gets out of season 8 alive.

Ok, true about Sam, but if we compare the story telling time tables between characters, Sam was there for several years, while Landry ran back to the castle, got a raven out, raven flew to Dragonstone, Dany prepped for flight and her and her dragons got to Jon and team in about a half day.brewster wrote: Mon Mar 25, 2019 2:08 pmIf it wasn't boring we'd not understand why Sam left.Kath wrote: Mon Mar 25, 2019 1:45 pm The Sam stuff was quite boring, though, except for Jorah and when he took off with all the books.Probably, he's shifted to more of an idealist than pragmatist. I know you can't 1:1 compare the timetables, but in terms of story telling, it seemed way off. Landry had never even been cold before, and he ran through all that snow in record breaking time.
When it comes to this type of story telling, I would prefer that there's at least some sense of timing.
I think Jon gets out of this alive.

I just had a random thought: What if Arya had not run into Hot Pie who told her Jon and Sansa were at Winterfell? If she had gone to Kings Landing and killed Cersei, who would be her heir? She has no children, there's no Barathion's left, Neither her uncle nor Jamie would have a valid claim other than by might, Littlefinger also would try but fail, not even being noble born. Might it have basically put Dany on the throne???
