I hate to rain on your parade but they've been around since like 08 and haven't accomplished anything I'm aware of.

We just need a tipping point where people demand it.
This is a fight that really belongs to the Millenials. As much as I hate to give credit to Boomers, they saw a need to clean up our environment and create worker safety protections. We got EPA and OSHA, which have done there job, now they are just out of control. But we addressed a lot of problems along the way.

Any organization you have you need to occasionally look at them to ensure they are doing what they are supposed to do and not getting out of control.

My point is people need to be concerned enough about this that 'we' act and force reform. When I cited the EPA and OSHA, it was to note that people, primarily Boomers reached a tipping point and forced reform. We also got the War Powers Act which wasn't violated until 2011 in Libya and the Freedom of Information Act which has served to protect us all.

Can EFF be the NRA of electronic information protection from Government, IDK ?
Maybe with Trump in charge suddenly Hollywood Lefties will make one of those touching videos where they share lines in the same message and get everyone motivated to speak up

Isn't that the express purpose of Anonymous? I'd say they've been pretty damned successful - just no way to directly support them, that I'm aware of.

Unfortunately they are pro-government regulation and anti-privacy. They showed that by promoting net neutrality.

They're not perfect and, as pointed out, not terribly effective.

The NRA is pretty effective. They're backed by good money with intertwining interests. 4th amendment issues just don't have that right now.

Keep in mind, 4thwise, we basically built and funded this panopticon ourselves... the CIA, NSA, et all, are just free riding on the rails we built.

Maybe some business killing regulations for the data hoovers and smart camera builders. Maybe instead of dismantling the administrative state, we can just feed it until it crushes it's own information system.

Just for just for, I asked a classmate of mine (white guy, father, retired archaeologist and voted for Clinton) last night if he read the newest wikileaks dump. His response was, "Isn't the timing suspicious, how this all benefits Trump right after the Trump Tower wiretapping accusations?"

I asked in response "I'm not really concerned about the timing or who benefits, the information is the deal. Did you read the information in the documents?"

"Yes, it all very suspicious how this benefits Trump"

And we went in that circle for few minutes before I told him he was making excuses. Then he kinda got quiet and said, "It doesn't bother me, I don't use smart devices."

One shouldn't let the facts get in the way of your conclusions.
