On one of Dukenog's podcasts last night, an interesting point was made. It was argued that individualism and state centralization go hand-in-hand. They have a point.

Explain, please. I haven't seen dog's post or linked podcasts yet.

If individualism is consistent with state control, I want to read up on it. I'm all ears.

That there was no such concept until after the Enlightenment and it's predilection towards state centralization. That state centralization obliterates kin bonds, community bonds, racial and ethnic bonds, and so on. It does things like create a standing army to maintain its power and prerogatives or seizing control of health care and charitable programs; and in so doing, it eliminates social duties like mustering to a militia, serving the poor in your community, etc.

The very concept of individualism belies a rejection of your social duties to your kin, your community, your ethnic group, and even your nation. This doesn't happen until those duties are removed or become optional.

Yet in creating a highly individualistic, centralized nation state, we also create weakness and sow the seeds for the kinds of dysfunction we experience in our own time.

still haven't seen any knocking down of Dan's arguments though.
The health care system y'all have still sucks and socialized medicine won't make it worse... the numbers have spoken.
Single payer health care and booting the insurance companies to the sidelines is the way to go.

The fact that he is getting multiple interviews all the time kind of shows that he is at least getting his name out there for more people to listen to.

I think most people on this forum still listen to Dan.

As I said before, CS is no longer in Top 20 (or even Top 100). I don't know why that is? Could be same numbers but other shows picked up more listeners. Many people on this forum are simply of the opinion that Dan has focused on HH like he said he was going to, and reduced CS like he said he was going to do, and we are disappointed. Subsequently, he murdered his forum (he didn't close it, you can't look in the window), and we have all kinds of theories why that may be, all of which sucked for us.

Overall, in my opinion, I feel like Dan is still an outsider looking in on things. Plus, he has, at least for me, like 30+ years of experience with not only politics but on other things like policing and journalism and I still listen to the guy. It's that he isn't just putting out shows as much as he used to do in the past and this is why I think people haven't really listened to him. Not because he doesn't like Trump- a lot of people don't like Trump.

I'm not sure what you're defending? Dan murdered his forum. We're here now. I'll listen to the next CS whenever it comes out. I'm not as excited about it as I used to be though.

p.s. Trump? Trump just made Dan make a choice, but unlike Kath who had the same choice before her & made the same one as Dan, Kath didn't have a radio show & podcast whose foundation was "we need an outsider." Carry Dan's water all you want, it's not going to change anyone's mind here, and we still love Dan.
