Just checked the FEMA Nuclear Weapon Target Map for Ohio, according to FEMA they expect three hydrogen bombs to hit Toledo.

That might cause some traffic, but its hardly the end of the world. I doubt they would even nuke Florida.

The most likely scenario, by far, is nuclear war by accident, launch on false warning inciting massive retaliation, at which point, northern hemisphere totally annihilated.

A survey of the global fallout patterns reveals a few sweet spots, all in the southern hemisphere, but the sweetest of those is in Paraguay, Ciudad del Este or bust.

I don't like Paraguay. What else you got for sweet spots?

Southern Africa or southern South America, take your pick. Everything else gets hit by the fallout from Australasia or the Subcontinent.

Fine South America. Not nasty as Paraguay. Chile or Argentina. I've always wanted to see Tierra Del Fuego and Patagonia.

I'd say Argentina, but the Falkland Islands is likely a target, so Paraguay is safe even if the Russians hit the British base there.

See, with the Southern Horse Latitude and Doldrums prevailing winds, Paraguay is in a perfect sweet spot, with all the prevailing winds carrying fallout away from them, from any likely targets in the Southern Hemisphere.

And Ciudad del Este sits upriver on the Paraná, perfectly suited for all other concerns, water, food, trade, etc.

It's isolated enough to ensure that it wouldn't be swamped by people, but not so isolated that it is deep the wilderness away from civilization.

And it's not a slum overrun by favellas, it's a reasonably well run and prosperous modern city in good shape with the all the amenities, including a full feature port, surrounded by ranches and farms.

And it is powered by its own hydroelectric dam at Itaipu, so it's got it all.
