I'm not denying that we have some silly culture war battles here, and some Palin types, I just think its cool that America is a very innovative country that does produce impressive products that the rest of the world uses. Its easy to mock America, but I feel as a country we punch far above our weight in terms of innovation.

I'm not denying that we have some silly culture war battles here, and some Palin types, I just think its cool that America is a very innovative country that does produce impressive products that the rest of the world uses. We do, but we've also manipulated our currency to the point that it's cheaper to pay someone on the other side of the globe to make our shit, and ship it around the world for us. It's only because of our byzantine IP laws, that we have an economy at all.

There are plenty of countries with high populations. Nigeria, China, India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan also have a lot of people in their borders. I wouldn't trust a jet engine, or medical device made by any of them though. Population isn't everything.

China is doing its best to rip off any and all of our design plans it can get its hands on. It is terrifying. In the short term, in will probably hurt us and help them, but in the long term, it may backfire on the Chinese. It would be like if we were taking a class, and I copied all of your homework assignments because you were smarter than me. That will work until we both take the test, and I can't cheat off you. Who knows though? Maybe we will all be speaking mandarin and ruled by Chinese overlords in a century...

I didn't say that those other places had more people than us, just that a high population doesn't always equal a better country with more innovation. How many people are in Sweden or Italy vs. Nigeria or Pakistan? Which countries produce better stuff that there is a global demand for?
