just a technical note on why the FIM-92's can't be serviceable anymore
what happens is that both the solid fuel rocket motor and high explosive warhead start to break down chemically
the fuel & explosive pellets become unstable and start to turn into a gelatinous goo
at this point the weapons are generally blown up by the engineers, because they become highly unsafe
if the Taliban have any, which I doubt they do, the missiles would be rotted by now, the fluids leaking out of their casings
Right on.
You probably didn't listen long enough, but I mentioned the stingers because Carlin was hoping the Afghans still didn't have any left.
Which is just searching for a way to hang current problems on Reagan.
the Taliban never had FIM-92's
obviously if they had them they would have been using them sometime in the last twenty years
the Pentagon knows they don't have them, otherwise they wouldn't be flying Chinooks into LZ's in an assault role
but the Taliban doesn't actually need them, they just use RPG-7's Mogadishu style
like on Operation Red Wings with Marcus Lutrell, IIRC the Chinook full of SEAL's was shot down by an RPG-7, same as Blackhawk Down
it was actually AQ which came up with this tactic, they are the ones who trained the Somalis in Mogadishu
