Minimum Wage just went up to $11.50 in Washington State. The price of milk is $2.68 a Gallon.

I like to load brand new video games on five year old computers. When I hear the cooling fans kick on and those old magnetic hard drives chittering and whirring like they’re on their last legs it really makes my day. I’ll play a few minutes of the game at a crawling 7 frames per second as heat warnings pop up in the lower right corner of the screen and then say:

Damn this computer is working hard! This is the hardest working computer to ever render a completely unplayable game of Wolfenstein II. RESPECT!!!

As an aside, good post JD. I imagine every class from the blue collar to the elite create their own folk heroes which reflect their own struggles, virtues, and victories. Hadn’t thought about it that way, but it sounds right.

All my folk heroes are NHL hockey players, I was never good enough to make the NHL nor anything even close, luckily for me, the Canadian Army is second in the pecking order here, after NHL players. In fact, when we met NHL players, they were as impressed by us as we were impressed by them.

Where I come from, you try to make the NHL, if you can't make the NHL, next best thing; join the regiment.

To be honest I'm legit surprised my name isn't Mario, since Lemieux scored the Canada Cup winning goal, in my hometown, exactly one year before my birth. My dad was there at Copps with a friend of his, sitting in next to Walter Gretzky, even talked to him and between periods and shit.

Imagine sitting next to Walter Gretzky when his son makes that pass, damn that's something.

I could tell you guys so many stories of software engineers losing their damned minds. Office Space could have been a documentary.

There's gonna be a lot of kids named Auston in the GTA soon

Muh Auston, brother from another mother, God bless America.

Born in San Ramon, raised in Scottsdale, to be a man among men, in the true north strong and free.

True story.
SJWs are a natural consequence of corporatism.

Also, quite a lot of industrial espionage. When I wasn't working in a classified vault, I was necessarily surrounded by a lot of foreign workers. The corporations would hire all these people to save money, and those those people would steal source code and other trade secrets for their home countries. The foreign software engineers are the craziest of all.

Minimum wage is for Millennial snowflakes who can't even pump their own gas.

There's a shortage of skilled labourers, if you're an iron man with the skills to go into the breach, you make good money, if you have a college degree in cry whining and your special skill is World of Warcraft, you're as useless as tits on a slug, who knew?
The reason there is a shortage is that people were told for the longest time that college is the best way to go and blue-collar work was above them... now the market is flooded with people who are afraid to get their hands dirty, and those that are willing to are getting too old do keep doing it.

Even with the oil price coming back down, there's still a labour shortage in Alberta, there was like a six month correction, then they started hiring again, they have a minimum wage, but they can't find anybody to work for that, even in a depressed price energy economy, people can easily find better than that.

$25/hour in Alberta, is called a recession, because when business is booming, they pay $50/hour.

Show me an SJW that is willing to get their hands dirty like that? Fuck, I take the train with guys who use nail polish and buff their nails because they manscape.

I would do it myself if my back wasn't in such bad condition, it's why I am learning the skills I am at home, for when SHTF, but also to pass on to my son. I want him to learn how to work with his hands and not be afraid to get dirty... best says of my life was when I working outside sweating and feeling like I got shit done at the end of the day.

Working in an office kills you slowly.
