When the great Canadian Cultural Revolution is afoot you’ll need to be ready to serve in any capacity. You’re one Little Red Book away from having to break Dr. Y out of a kangaroo court.

If I had to kill people, I could kill them, but I have neither the interest nor the inclination to be sitting 24 hour alert for the Immediate Action at this point in my life, I'm retired.

I'm fully aware of what is entailed in the Special Operations Assaulters course, but I'm long past the days where that sort of thing has any appeal anymore, that's a young mans game.

Sounds lovely.
I can see why entertaining new ideas, hearing war stories, and sharpening skills would be unappealing.
Wouldn’t want to interrupt that dull, methodical, inevitable ride towards the grave you got going on.

“Do shit? Son, I’m retired. Doing shit is for the living.”

All evil needs to succeed is for good people to be retired lazy asses.

Well there's doing shit and then there's Special Operations Assaulter, I might do some shit, but I have no delusions of grandeur in terms of doing that shit, it sounds easier than it exactly is, on the podcast.

If somebody things they're training for JTF2, on their own time, that's pretty delusional, JTF2 requires utter commitment, that is your whole life, there's no room for anything else.

Ah, gotcha.

Jocko isn’t doing operator shit anymore either. He’s spending his days teaching C-suite level professionals how to lead. He’s damn depressed about it to, but what are you gonna do? Can’t lead SEAL teams in Ramadi forever. Like Robert Duvall said ...

Still, he has some good advice on leadership, self discipline, exercise, situational awareness, the origins of luck, etc.

Yeah, more power to him, but in terms of soldiering, I'm at about the maximum a man of my age can attain, while not actually soldiering, like, it's just not the same as being in the machine, big green machine rolls on without you, the moment you turn in your kit, you can't maintain the knife edge, on civvy street, the knife edge is a 24-7 job.

It's like being a pro athlete, as soon as you retire from the NFL, you're not fit to play NFL football anymore, you can play some touch football, you can golf, but you're not going to be scrimmaging with the pros, when you're not in the machine anymore.

Well ....

.... that analogy might work for pro athletes. But war? Many a professional army has been brought to its knees by rebel fighters operating in their own territory.

Well as I said, basic requirement to close with and destroy with maximum speed violence and aggression by day and night in all weather climate and terrain; could be done if I had to, but that does not an Operator make.

Sure, but even Operators have off days.

Only took one random Muj sniper to retire a member of Jockos team. Probably not even a pro sniper. Just some bored, possibly retired Iraqi with a high powered rifle and some time to kill.
