Well, like you said, time is ever on the Kims' side. Build up your arsenal slowly and keep the agitation to a simmer without boiling over, while the Americans Five Stages of Grief themselves into accepting a tactical withdrawal from the peninsula and Sea of Japan, seems like a pretty clutch strat to me. Bit of a balancing act, sure, but if they could navigate the past twenty years like that, another twenty or forty years, now with a nuclear guarantee in their back pocket, shouldn't be that hard.Smitty-48 wrote:Perhaps, but the danger zone is in the transition, the scenario you are invoking couldn't really happen overnight, that's a generational shift not a deke move, if set upon suddenly and backed up against the wall by nuclear blackmail, the national security apparatus will react reflexively, nobody puts baby in a corner, with hydrogen bombs, without that shit getting real fucking hairy real fucking fast, anyway you slice it.KerningChameleon wrote:You know, I think Trump might have just Mr. Magoo'd his way into being ahead of the curve on this one. The United States would not be in control anymore than the NK's would, as soon as somebody puts a nuclear gun up in America's mouth, to try to leverage her, the fur is gonna fly, because when you scare the existential shit out of America, she's not going to react in a calm and rational manner, she's gonna go ape shit, that's going to set the nuclear deterrent off, worldwide, that's gonna be the brink of nuclear war, autonomous response, at which point, control becomes a delusion.
You had it right the first time, it's all about brinksmanship, but once somebody takes it to the brink, the genie is out of the bottle, and neither side is in control, it will take on a life of its own, hair trigger, and if anybody flinches then; yikes. These trains are made to run on time, and they go on the drop of a hat, while reining them in with the chicken switch, requires all your might.

Yeah, that's what the NK's are thinking, I however, find the whole "American hegemon withdrawing from the Western Pacific" scenario to be extremely far fetched, social media urban myth, America ain't going anytime soon, and absolutely not by force.KerningChameleon wrote:Well, like you said, time is ever on the Kims' side. I think the NK's are going to achieve the exact opposite effect than what they are intending, attempting to leverage America, is not going to make her run away, it's going to make her dig her heels in, and close with ever more forces not less, nobody puts baby in a corner, and certainly not with hydrogen bombs.
The North Koreans don't understand America anymore than America understands them, so they're making a big mistake, this is the exact wrong way to make America back off, this is just going to incite the Eagle With Thunderbolts in Talons Grasped, into a frenzy of military industrial action.
Do not jar Happy Fun Ball.

I would destroy every square inch of that pygmy wasteland to put an end to that program.
This talk about walking away so they go away is fucking absurd. These people will launch.
Destroy it.

The flaw in the whole "just run away" theory, is that you could always come back, so in the event of a war breaking out, they're still going to attack you, even if they were fighting with Korea and Japan, because you're still a threat to intervene, regardless of whether you are actually on the Korean Peninsula itself at any given moment, so there's nowhere to run to, when you're talking ICBM's and hydrogen bombs.
And, if you're not there, much more likely that they go to war with Korea and Japan, dragging you into it by default, so pulling back does not make you safer at all.
This is how Pearl Harbor happened, it's not that Imperial Japan saw America as its sworn enemy, but they couldn't be secure in achieving their objectives in the Pacific, unless they neutralized the US Navy in Hawaii, so they attacked the United States, just on potential alone, which was a mistake, but if they had had ICBM's and hydrogen bombs, would have gone a little differently, Nuclear Pearl Harbor is a whole nother ballgame.
Also, don't tunnel vision on the ICBM's, there are plenty of other ways to deliver the nukes, nuclear torpedo is actually a much more confounding threat than an ICBM, even worse, nuclear sea container, that will lay waste a port city just as much as an ICBM will, and it doesn't leave a calling card, so you can't even be sure where it came from.

It's gonna happen.
Might as well get it over with.

I was gung-ho for the counterforce, until I saw that Hwasong-15, suffice to say, if you're gonna go, go now, now, now, because they are further along than I had surmised, if they get even a handful of those fully up and running, dispersed and concealed, that is enough to lay waste to America right there right thur, and dispersed and concealed, would be extremely hard to get before they launched.
That missile is the real deal, if they get more than a handful of those up and running? They can drop Cormac McCarthy's The Road on you.
They're not the Soviets, they're not the Chicoms, neither the Soviets nor the Chicoms ever sought a war with you, the North Koreans want a war, it's what their doomsday cult is all about, so this is not a stable deterrence dynamic in play here, and they don't even have control over where this goes, if they take it to brinksmanship, it will take on a life of its own, and even Kim Jong Un wouldn't be able to stop it.
Rational actors? The fact that they are even courting this genie, playing with fire like this, is irrational in of itself, they are creating a paradigm which leads to a self fulfilling prophecy, wherein they couldn't back down even if they wanted to.

Re: North Korea News
There's a lot of wrong headed assumptions in play, about how they could never strike you without getting struck back.
If I'm them, once I have my strategic deterrent in place, I would hit you covertly, from behind that shield, nuclear sea container attacks on your port cities, deniable and untraceable to them, the Russians and Chinese are gonna say it "wasn't them, it was terrorists", then what are you going to do? Retaliate against them? When they have a few dozen of those Hwasong-15's on hair trigger alert? Not gonna happen, you're already crippled, and then you're going to bring the roof down on your own heads?
Once they have the strategic deterrent in place, they can run amok, and there's not going to be any good options for striking back.

Re: North Korea News
Their entire society is based around the prophecy that they will destroy America, it's like they are Hitler, and you are the Jews, it's not rational, but as I've said, this is a crazy cult, that's what I'm trying to tell you, they're not rational actors.
Why are they doing what they're doing now? Makes no rational sense neither, and yet here they are doing it, after everybody in America was told that they would never take it here in the first place.
Like, wake up, dude, the Korean War never ended, not for them, they are still fighting it, and this is their big forty year project to win the war and destroy their enemy of enemies once and for all time, it's the only way they can win, America will just keep coming back, unless it is destroyed as a military power for all intents and purposes, if they fight you, and they want to win, it's kill or be killed, there's no middle ground.
