The medieval motif is that yellow harp on a green field.
I don't know about the modern stuff.
They used to add different things to it, though.

Altogether, the Irish in American make a very interesting history, because it surely hasn't been a cakewalk for the Irish to fit in and become part of the larger American heritage.Speaker to Animals wrote:The medieval motif is that yellow harp on a green field.

Yeah Irish people prefer the harp (and it is a symbol of Ireland). The Cross of St Patrick was created in the 1783 by George III as part of a chivalric order,Speaker to Animals wrote:

They were more hated and abused than the blacks for about a century. The Chinese replaces them as our hated minority, and now it's the Mexicans.ssu wrote:Altogether, the Irish in American make a very interesting history, because it surely hasn't been a cakewalk for the Irish to fit in and become part of the larger American heritage.Speaker to Animals wrote:The medieval motif is that yellow harp on a green field.

I actually read a book on Chinatown and America's view on the Chinese. Basically, if you were a rich white man, it was socially acceptable for you to go to Chinatown, fuck Chinese whores, gamble, and smoke opium. This was not talked about among women or polite society, but it was perfectly fine and considered a rite of passage. If you were a white woman that was another story. You were expected to steer clear of Chinatown as you were likely to be raped, hooked on drugs, and sold into sexual slaveyr. Louis Leng and the Elsie Siegel murder was a big deal for Americans at the time as it seemed to confirm all their fears about race mixing and sinister Chinese motives concerning white women.GrumpyCatFace wrote:They were more hated and abused than the blacks for about a century. As a guy, I feel like I would have really enjoyed going to Chinatown and I would like to bring that whole thing back tbh. Sometimes people of the past got it exactly right.

Mexicans will morph into the US mainstream just as the Irish did. The US will have no problem with that. And for Mexicans those Americans of Mexican origin are still Americans, gringos. Above all, the American-Mexicans don't want to be Mexicans but Americans. Heritage and language aside, they do prefer Washington DC over Ciudad Mexico. That's one extremely crucial thing here. Just as in my puny little country the Swedish speaking never saw themselves as Swedes. Huge importance.GrumpyCatFace wrote:They were more hated and abused than the blacks for about a century. The hated minority are the muslims, especially those of arab descent (Asian Muslims likely escape the wrath). Just look at (uhhh... this forum)???
