Using national elections as proof that Political Parties aren't in control in individual states, or that there membership did not change is bizarre. What party controls a local government doesn't determine who those local voters will vote for in a national election.

The Republican Party was locked out of any effective influence forget control from the end of Reconstruction to after Nixon.
