Trump was intentionally trying to get the media and other people to overreact with his outrageous and vague statements. It simply made his base love him even more when his political opponents clearly couldn't see the joke and they lashed out at Trump when they didn't get it, and got trolled the shit out of because they took him literally. His supporters ate that shit up.

It worked beautifully, Trump knew what he was doing was doing, just as you knew what you were doing when you made your post and trolled us in a very similar vein. The difference is I get what you are doing, but Trump's haters can't see the forest from the trees.

Why would he stop doing it when it is working out for him beautifully? Perhaps if it wasn't benefiting him greatly then it would make sense for him to stop. While the strategy keeps working at the expense of his haters, it makes zero sense to dial it back just because some people misinterpreted what he was saying. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
