Well, you need to take that up with all the virologists and leaders of government institutions like the CDC, who say it's very likely this becomes widespread pandemic. With an R0 of over 6.0.. you are just talking out of your ass when you say it's not likely to match influenza in infectivity. Influenza has never been anywhere near this transmissive.

People also said the same stupid shit in the beginning of the Spanish Flu pandemic. Then the death tolls rose. Imagine being that asshat who, in the NYT, actually said heart disease was the greater threat because it killed so many more people than the flu. Until the second wave of the influenza strain that exceeded heart disease deaths..

Comparing established diseases with one that is just starting, on the basis of absolute death tolls alone.. that's just stupid.. and if somebody actually thinks that way, then they really need to be the first to go so that humanity is stronger (and smarter) the next time.

If I were literally the one in charge of distributing resources in a global lock down, I would not distribute anything to these people until everybody else was fed and safe. Call me a fascist or whatever, but I think society is better off not having this kind of stupidity and weakness in the gene pool. Setting aside a few months of dry goods so that you can get through a lockdown that is increasingly likely is rational, and nobody is clever or smart who refuses to do that when they have the power to do so.
