Re: The, "All Things English" thread
Ever since the English King declared himself to be both King and Pope, the Pope in Rome and the King of England have been the competing offices of God's representative on earth.

Hence why tore itself apart in civil war between Roman Catholics and Protestants.
With the Global Hegemonic Superpower, France, House of Bourbon crowned by the Pope in Rome, on the side of the Papists.

England is broken by this civil war, and so under the thumb of Bourbon by default.
Until such time that England is invaded by the Dutch, oddly enough.

The Dutch invader brings with him a new innovation. Parliamentary Supremacy.
Turns out, it's so good for business, England in a very short time blows by the House of Bourbon to become the new Global Hegemon, while Bourbon goes broke and then is overthrown by the Jacobins.

England then conquers the Papist strongholds in Scotland and Ireland, led by the new Dutch King.
Founding the United Kingdom in 1707.
The United Kingdom goes on to found the British Empire in the Seven Years War and subsequent Treaty of Paris.
The British Empire goes on to rule the world
Until it charges into Franco-Prussian War Two, in 1914.
At which point it becomes the Great War.
England goes broke fighting this war, and as a result is forced to go to Wall Street in Manhattan, cap in hand.
Wall Street then buys the British Empire, pays cash.
And thus is how the Anglo-American Empire of Liberty is born.

I believe the Picts were a distinct group in northern Britain, prior to the Celts.

"Picts" is an invention of the Romans.
The Romans surmised that they were descendant of something the Romans called the Caledonii.
The Picts was the confederation of the Celts of the Caledonii who went to found the Kingdom of Alba.
Scottish history being just as Roman as English history, it turns out.

Again, all this shit was made up by the Romans, Norse and Germanic words which the Romans decided to adopt to explain things to Romans.

Celts is an invention of the Romans, they probably weren't actually all the same people, but the Romans decided that they were.
