This one not so much...
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Violent 'yellow-vest' protests spread to Belgium

“We want this movement to spread,”
“It began in France, it is here now, and we want it to continue to Germany and the Netherlands, across Europe, even to England.”

French join the spirit of the Arab Spring by spray painting on city walls: “The people want the fall of the regime.”

They have no ammunition and they're so poorly equipped that they have to buy plate carriers and protective gear with their own money:

How should we reconcile events like this one with the assertion that a representative democracy is the best form of government?
It seems to me that this shows how a representative democracy is at least worse than a direct democracy, since a clear majority of the French electorate oppose this awful tax enough to set a city ablaze in response.

It is not a majority of the French setting fires. It is a tiny minority of extremists.
If this was Antifa protesting the policies of the elected government you would be losing your shit.

A majority of the electorate opposes these taxes, dude. A majority of them support the rioters/protesters too.
The point here being that representative democracies everywhere, through corruption of representatives, foist upon an unwilling populace deeply unpopular and destructive policies. Most people oppose mass migrations into their countries. Most people oppose globalization and violation of national sovereignty. Yet governments are forcing those policies upon people everywhere.
Just because you personally agree with the globalist cancer should not prevent you from seeing the disconnect between the promises of representative democracy and this shit show we actually have.
My suspicion is that globalists and far leftists like you actually only like the facade of democracy where you get what you want while pretending it was fairly decided in elections. If the people somehow manage to put a measure up for a popular vote and it goes against you, you demand "do-overs" and try to negate the vote through corrupt judges or sabotage by the corrupt globalist politicians.
Then when people start protesting you call them terrorists. Unless it is you protesting the result of an election. Antifa attacking a man's family are just "protesters", and the man deserved it anyway because he is a "Nazi".
Surely you see where this is headed?

But... But... That's government "creating jobs", isn't it? I thought that's what people on the left wanted?
