It's what the Toronto police are saying.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

As mass shooters copy other high profile/highly reported mass shooters before they go on their killing sprees, it seems logical that someone would similarly copy high profile/highly reported murders-by-vehicle. Even if they don't share the same motivations. Or, perhaps, this was more about a mentally unstable person who shouldn't have been behind a wheel at all, freaking out for some - autistic-related? - reason, which causes him to, unintentionally mowe down several people. After which he's even more freaked out, and wants to die.The suspect in the Toronto van attack was a man who travelled through the world with two identities: One as a socially awkward student who rarely spoke, barely functioned and had difficulty controlling tics, and another as an expert-level whiz who could lead classmates through the intricacies of computer chips.
Police Chief Mark Saunders identified the suspect in a vehicle attack that killed at least 10 people and injured 15 as Alek Minassian, 25, of Richmond Hill, Ont. He was not previously known to police.
An Alek Minassian was known to his former classmates in high school and over seven or eight years at Seneca College as a man with no known religious or political affiliations or strong views on anything, nor a penchant for violence.
...
This student said he spent much of Monday trying to tell whether his friend was the same person who surfaced in videos of the post-attack arrest. He said the portion of an eyewitness video where the suspect pointed at a police officer with an object was the man he knew. The movements fit with the man he knew, he said, although the bald head was something new.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.

Ok. So he isn't a muslim? I would, confidentially, posit that anyone who drove a vehicle down the sidewalk for 4 blocks with the intent to mow down civilians, was/is a terrorist. Especially, one who saw an elderly lady in the crosswalk and intentionally sped up to run her over. Which is what I read in one eye witness account. I can dig it up if need be.BjornP wrote:https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/ ... ward-tech/Haumana wrote:Oh? They are sayingMontegriffo wrote:It's what the Toronto police are saying.

There are several reports saying that the police are not treating this as international terrorism. No motive has yet been put forward.

How cute of you to add the word "international" now. Who even said anything of the like? Domestic terrorism gets a pass on your watch? How grossly offensive of you to try to slip that in.Montegriffo wrote:Google "Toronto attack not terrorism"Haumana wrote:Oh? They are sayingMontegriffo wrote:It's what the Toronto police are saying.

Not to mention the fact that you are here touting a motive or a lack of one despite any official word on the matter.Montegriffo wrote:No motive has yet been put forward.

Re: Terror in Toronto
On the designation of "terrorist", I think that should be reserved for mass killings for some shared political, religious or philosophical cause . Otherwise that's like calling all mass shooters terrorists. If you're an emo, suicidal high school student who wants to take all the douchebags and bitches with you in an orgy of bullets and blood, you're not doing it for some sort of cause.. you're doing it exclusively for your own, individual, personal feeling of having been wronged.Haumana wrote:

If a stripper's jealous boyfriend marches down to his girlfriend's stripclub at shoots up his girlfriend, her fellow strippers and ten of the local clientele... that's not terrorism, either unless it's accompanied by some sort of political/religious/philosophical declaration of cause. "Why don't you truly love me?! *waaah waaah, bang bang bang*, otoh, wouldn't be terrorism. It would "just" be mass murder.

So, at this point, we don't know why he did what he did. I have yet to see a "truck of peace" mow down innocent civilians because they were emo. Links to contrary would be appreciated, hypothetical strippers and their psychotic boyfriends aside. This was premeditated murder. The guy didn't take his work van and veer off the street onto the sidewalk to mow down a mother with her stroller. He actually rented this van with the forethought that he was gonna run over some peeps and he did so for a 4 block stretch at speeds up to 60 mph. Context can fill in a few of these scenarios. It was terrorism, domestic or otherwise.BjornP wrote:
