Norway.
Not a secession. Dissolution of a union, created a few years prior, by a war.

Norwegian nationalistic aspirations in 1814 were frustrated by Sweden's victory in a brief, but decisive war that resulted in Norway entering into a personal union with Sweden.

I guess that depends on what you thought the social contract was?

You just said that, despite what the Constitution says, if California attempts to secede, which is their right as a state, the federal government will start killing people.

How is that not the conditions necessary for a civil war?

The Constitution isn't a suicide pact.
It's a perfect recipe for a civil war. But since California hasn't actually attempted to secede, I wouldn't say that we're in a "state of civil war". Pretty far from it.

As I see it, California said 'fuck the rules, I do muh own thing', and the Feds threatened to send in the troops to quell their rebellious attitude.

If California suddenly drums up their guard troops, and mustering people, then it's a war. Otherwise, it's just some very weird squabbling, for now.
Um, troops? What troops? The National guard doesn't work like that dude. And a militia in California  Gun grabbers like you spoiling for a fight? Not likely.

You want to pretend that Sweden was a united nation, including Norway as part of its territory? Sure, stooge.

Welp, then I guess the feds will encounter no opposition when they march in. Should be fun to watch.

Sessions said during a speech to the California Peace Officers’ Association in Sacramento on Wednesday.

“There is no nullification. There is no secession. Federal law is the supreme law of the land. I would invite any doubters to go to Gettysburg, to the tombstones of John C. Calhoun and Abraham Lincoln. This matter has been settled,” he continued.
Yeah this is an interesting development and I can see this going all the way to the Supreme Court

I don’t need to pretend anything, it’s in your own citation:
  • ...negotiations between the two governments led to Sweden's recognition of Norway as an independent constitutional monarchy on 26 October 1905. On that date, King Oscar II renounced his claim to the Norwegian throne, effectively dissolving the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway.
What’s throwing you for a loop there, buddy? Is it because they were called United Kingdoms instead of United States? Is that why you think a dissolution of United government is somehow different than a secession?

I know Bjorn is going to come in here and mop the floor with both of us, but this was a 'personal union' with Sweden, not a single nation. You can't pretend that this has any semblance of what's happening in California.

Every time you post the global IQ drops by a half point.

You’re killing us all, Grumpy.
