Amusingly enough, in the newer flicks, it seems like they go to great lengths to explain why the new Empire, whatever it is called these days, is so terrible.
In the rip roaring 70s, it was enough to just have an Empire, call them evil, and just let the audience get on board with the cause. These days, you really gotta hammer on the reasons why the Empire is the bad guy.
The world, it would seem, has finally caught up with your love and appreciation for legitimate authority.

In the absence of the Republic, who is the legitimate authority? The Rebel Alliance? Who elected them? The Jedi are a military order, the Rebel Alliance is a Junta, they have no more legitimate authority than the Empire, the Rebel Alliance merely an empire of disorder, chaos, and permanent war, totally incapable of maintaining peace and order in the galaxy.

Nobody kills more innocent people than the Rebel Alliance, every time they blow the central authority in the galaxy up, trillions are killed in the subsequent chaos and disorder.

The "Death Star" is not its official name, It's officially the Project Stardust Orbital Battle Station, "Death Star" is simply rhetorical, y'know, like the way the US military gives its equipment aggressive sounding names. such as Spectre, Prowler, Intruder, Black Widow, Viper, Venom, Reaper, etc.

The "Death Star" is not its official name, It's officially the Project Stardust Orbital Battle Station, "Death Star" is simply rhetorical, y'know, like the way the US military gives its equipment aggressive sounding names. such as Spectre, Prowler, Intruder, Black Widow, Viper, Venom, Reaper, etc.

Fair enough. Still, Orbital Battle Station doesn't scream trading post. They didn't rhetorically call it the 'Bling Star.'
