Netflix has got to go big, they need their own proprietary franchises.
Thing is, I love Netflix. It's got more television than I'd ever want to watch. But that doesn't justify anything near the 100x pe, or being the 'top gainer' stock for 3 years running.
Indeed, I like Netflix too, but as you say, the projections look much different, if they can't wholesale Star Wars & Co.

The Disney content is paying for the other content, they need to break out of Disney's world and mine other nerdy stuff of their very own. I mean, they're are plenty of SF franchises out there, which are untapped, the only way to hang with Luke Skywalker, is to come up with something new, and then go big time with the production values.

They need their own nerd niche, they can't keep dining out on established franchises.

I mean, we're all SF fans here, right? And we're all sick of Star Wars by now, right? Where is it written, the George Lucas is the king of SF? George Lucas sucks, it shouldn't be too hard to compete with Jar-Jar Binks, if you're not being lazy about it.

They don't, though. There's almost no Disney content on there to begin with (much to the frustration of my kids), and other than Clone Wars, I don't think there's much of any Star Wars either. The Marvel license is the big cudgel that they can beat Netflix to death with.

The Disney streaming looks like a bit of a non-starter to me, though. I can see a bunch of millenials going for it, to get their superheroes, but that's never going to replace Netflix.
SJWs are a natural consequence of corporatism.

Marvel is Disney, Spiderman is all inclusive to Star Wars & Co.

If the cash cows at Netflix are not owned by Disney, then they're owned by Time-Warner or CBS Viacom, Netflix needs to break out and come up with something new, they need some cash cows of their very own.

If you build it they will come, there's tons of untapped stuff out there, they're just lazy. George Lucas is no genius, he was ripping shit off when he made Star Wars, but he did it first, that's how he got that giant moneypouch under his chin; that's not fat, it's money, he's a fuckin' cash pelican.

All they need to do, is stop drilling down on the same old same old shit from forty years ago, and invent something for a change. Break out of the Millenial paradigm of living in the 1980's forever, Lucas changed the 1950's paradigm in 1977, somebody at some point is going do that again, I loved the 1980's, but even I'm bored with it now.

The big players already own the 1980's, the only way to break out, is new paradigm, if you don't have a niche, make one. If you don't have the wherewithal to do that? Well then you're probably not worth $82 billion in mkt cap after all.

I like Netflix just fine, but if all they are is rent seekers, that's not really a stable business model, long term.

This 1000%. I grew out of star wars by middle school, and C-mag had a pretty damning article that showed how much Lucas ripped off a french scifi comic for his movies.

Indeed, although, the real power behind the throne of Star Wars, was ILM, what Lucas did, was assemble a team, which re-invented production values as we knew it, in 1977. I was a fan of that French comic too, in 1977, but they didn't have ILM to bring it to the big screen.

ILM + John Williams; boom, new paradigm.

At the time, there werent many movies like Star Wars. The 1977 one was a pioneering film and broke new ground. Empire is probably the best made film of the original trilogy, although I like Jabba the most. For that reason I cant shit on old star wars because they were first in a lot of cinematic ways. By the time the prequels xame out, CGI was old news, and they almost felt drowned out in a sea of scifi movies. They didnt have the soul for lack of a better word, that the old ones had. Combined with Lucas’ large creative control in the writing, you had this absurd hammy dialogue which was unbearable. Hayden Christianson is not a bad actor, bit holy shit his lines in those movie are cringeworthy.

Everybody thought Star Wars was going to be a flop, because on paper, it was garbage, but they couldn't see beforehand, what it was going to be like, once you added the visual and sound effects, and music. 90% of Star Wars is in the art direction, and Lucas gets credit for that, because that was really the vision which he had, but no one else could see.

He was a bad writer, he was a bad director, but he broke the mold and invented a new paradigm, in terms of what a movie could look and sound like, and everybody has been copying him ever since.

The purchase does not include Fox News.

Seriously, dude. It's obvious that you didn't even read any of the articles about this. Your little condescending cynic shtick would be kinda cute if you weren't constantly stating falsehoods.

The Right just lost its biggest MSM stick, and did nothing about it.
No, they didn't. Fake news. And on your very own website. For shame, sir.
