Not the case. Several folks are pretending the definition is narrower than it is, so they can argue against a silly strawman of those they disagree with, to fool themselves into thinking they are winning the argument. Hwen just did that.

I'm fine with, A political unit that is populated by and run in the interest of an ethnic group, other folks, not so much. Some people want to front like if a nation is populated by and acts in the interests of an ethnic group, than it must be working against the interest of some other ethnic group, like it's a prerequisite of being an Ethno State, when that is nowhere in the definition.

People clearly need to put aside their pre-conceptions of an ethnostate, and start looking at modern examples of ethnostates. Then they won't react like a SIFCLF at the near mention of an ethno state, because the idea will be infinitely less scary than the dystopia they had pictured in their head, when they become acquianted with some real world examples that are doing pretty well for themselves.

The only people freaking about Ethno States on this board, are people who don't understand what an ethnostate is, and think it automatically means something more negative or positive than the definition would indicate. They want the term "ethnostate" either to be an inherently positive or negative term, instead of the neutral term that it is, you see when they use the term, they only use it to mean the positive or negative variety exclusively and they wish everyone else would only use the term for that narrow definition they have in their heads as well.
