Re: A Graceless coup
I have been interested in Mugabe since I was in High School. He is one of the last of the African "dinosaurs." I think Dos Santos stepped down from leading Angola too, but I could be wrong. That guy was also old as fuck. Zimbabwe has had a wild history. I thought his Wife was gonna try to take over, kind of like what Mao's wife attempted after his death. I doubt they will execute Mugabe. He is a strong symbol for Africans despite being a piece of water buffalo shit. He is old as fuck now so they will probably just let him die of natural causes under house arrest rather than risk the bad PR. I really don't know whats going on behind the scenes though.

Most reports are saying the army stepped in to stop Grace taking over the reins of power. Accusations of corruption are rife. The army seems to be playing this quite well, playing down talk of a coup and treating it as a criminality matter rather than a revolution.heydaralon wrote:I have been interested in Mugabe since I was in High School. Time will tell, Mugabe has made a first public appearance since his house arrest today and Grace is rumoured to be seeking asylum in Namibia.
If this turns into a civil war things will get really nasty very quickly.

After a day of protests yesterday and Zanu PF sacking him as leader of the party Reuters has just announced that Mugabe has stood down.
Let's hope it's true and that prosecution begins so that his wealth can be confiscated and returned to the people.

I wonder what Jimmy Carter has to say about this.

He doesn't seem to have any support. If he turns down this opportunity to go quietly it will not go well for him. He's going to die in jail if he hasn't got the sense to walk away.

Also not excatly like there are alot of long or even short term benefits to backing him. While certainly appearing healthy for a 93 year old, it's still 93 years old.Montegriffo wrote:He doesn't seem to have any support.
