I would agree with that, as long as you provide a yearly physical/neurological testing to make sure they are still capable of making decisions. I think that is more beneficial than a blanket age restriction. Would support such tests if they could be well-designed.The Conservative wrote:I would agree with that, as long as you provide a yearly physical/neurological testing to make sure they are still capable of making decisions. An age limitation needs to be put into place, we don't trust pilots to fly airplanes commercially... we shouldn't trust people past a certain age to hold the reigns of our country...katarn wrote:I think that is more beneficial than a blanket age restriction. That's not a rational argument. The reasons that old age make you an inferior pilot have no bearing on your ability to make sound political decisions. The Conservative wrote:An age limitation needs to be put into place, we don't trust pilots to fly airplanes commercially... we shouldn't trust people past a certain age to hold the reigns of our country...katarn wrote:I think that is more beneficial than a blanket age restriction. The reason for decertifying older pilots is reaction time, eye sight, etc. In fact, political deliberation requires much the opposite. We need less hasty decisions and reaction, and more deliberate decisions based on years of experience.
This thread is packed with fallacies like this. I think earlier somebody posted asinine replies to me with images of terrible politicians who were old. Being older doesn't necessarily make you a better politician, but age is definitely correlated to wisdom and experience which actually can make you a better leader. Furthermore, one could just reflect that fallacious argument with a photo o Marco Rubio. "There exists terrible young legislators, so we need to increase the minimum age to serve.." These are not logically valid arguments here.
All of this is high school-level argument. It's really quite embarassing.

Age of synapses and nerves. The older you get, the slower you become in general. You can potentially be compensated with wisdom and experience if you sought those things in your younger life, however.

Ahh, you hit upon something... the age of synapses and nerves, with the degradation of both you have the potential of also losing the ability to think straight, properly, or to remember things, which in turn can change how you react and respond to specific things.Speaker to Animals wrote:Age of synapses and nerves. Plaque buildup on receptors can cause neurological situations that can be akin to reduced cognitive skills, and other things such as Alzheimer's and reactions such as we make fun of here, ie: John McCain, and others of elderly dispositions.
This kind of lack of mental aptitude when a person gets when they hit the elderly years before or just before the end of life cycle of a person. The mind isn't always the first to go, but it's the first to show degradation when used in a mentally demanding environment such as Congress. (Or should be)
I have to bring you back to high school-level because you seem to forget it.

That's not really what causes it, if you mean dementia or Alzheimer.
