That's crazy. Do you break out ice climbing gear and finish the climb up that ice flow?

This is the only climb I've posted that I did NOT lead (start ground up and place protection to clip into as I climb, so that if I fall, I take a big and sometimes dangerous fall [a "whipper"]). You can see that the rope comes from above ("top roping").Speaker to Animals wrote:apeman wrote:Defeat:

You do the first half of the climb using ice axes and crampons on the rock itself, which is really fun and creative, and then I transition to the overhanging ice dagger and, as you can see in the pic, I pumped out and had to hang on the rope until my forearms and core recuperated.

Re: Photography thread!
This shows how you place protection on ice:
I put ice screws in and clip the rope to it. In ice climbing, you CANNOT fall on lead or you'll probably fuck yourself up good, I have never fallen on lead on ice and never will
This pic is of a frozen waterfall that is so big we had to do it in two pitches. I set the belay after the first pitch in an ice cave that formed naturally, and here you can see me leaving the protected cave to lead the next pitch.
