If you are writing a novel, absolute fidelity to the laws of grammar mightn't be the biggest concern. Let your linguistic freak flag fly, 'cause soon enough some AI is gonna be writing fantasy novels that follow all the damn rules.
Personally, I think that proper grammar can make the character more relatable. Character nuances, etc... I agree grammar can suck my left nut.
