in terms of defense, europe isn't looking good. eastern nations are bucking the immigration influx more and more, and are solidifying against the presence of russia. they seem to be minded more and more towards defense.

i know the trump NATO talk has simmered a lot, but the words are already out there. the specter of the US drawing down its commitment is out there now. britain's exit chips away at european defense a little, as a britain in the EU is more committed to the EU than a britain without. if france threatens to leave too, sure NATO would still be there, but a NATO-EU block is nonetheless stronger with britain and france in the EU than it is with them not.

with france being the EU's only ace left in terms of a formidable military, I think they wield quite a lot of persuasion right now.
