Or scared that SJW people are taking over/have taken over science?
Makes me wonder how many here have an academic background or degree.

Neither. What has happened is there is a "march for science" that somehow got co-opted into the autistic screeching SJW sphere. Its a repeat of the Women's March at this point and has nothing to do with science.ssu wrote:Sooo, you guys think Science is a gay SJW thing or what?

The thing is that the academic world typically looks far more left-wing, atheist and SJW than it actually is. Let's remember that doctors and lawyers etc. are academic too. It's just typical that the SJW crowd simply is the most vocal in the academic world and nobody puts any limits on them, they can have their fun hippie moment of improving the World before they start their actual well paid careers as doctors, engineers, and mid-level managers.California wrote:Neither. The left has always had the desire to harness "science" to it's needs and has wanted to look at itself as being more pro-science. Of course it's humbug, actually a socialist system puts far more limitations to scientific research than any Bible-thumping Creationist right-winger can influence the right. After all, Basically central planning has to start from an idea that the economy is a controllable machine or entity that you can engineer.California wrote:Its really more like how the fundamentalist Christians co-opted the Right back in the day and made conservative politics inseparable from fundamentalist religion. The Left has just replaced religion with "science" and is doing the same thing now. Shit, a lot of lefties are looking at "science" as a form of religion.
Please expand upon this before we derail the thread with a spurious response I almost posted. It's annoying when some group tries to own something that isn't actually it's own. Another example that comes to my mind neo-nazis that want to portray themselves as patriots and true defenders of a country, while actually being totally against what that country (usually a Republic) stands for.
OK, take a basically universally accepted thing like science or in my other example, patriotism, the love towards your country, and there might be groups that want to portray themselves as being the "real" defenders of this idea because of their own fantastic ideology. They simply want to dominate the positive "brand", which actually is supported by a lot of people that disagree with them.TheReal_ND wrote:Please expand upon this before we derail the thread with a spurious response I almost posted.
