Prices are VERY fluid. Prices are simply signals to the market. Higher prices push products to the people who need them most; supply goes up, price comes down. Not rocket science.

At any rate, from Katrina forward, the gratis (or nearly gratis) contributions of the Walmart, Home Depot, FedEx, et al, really diminish shortages of staples and good on all of them for that.

Lord knows the fucking feds suck at efficiently supplying necessities. God Bless the Walmart.

Hold on... Why would the anarcho-capitalist ideal applaud a pro-bono donation of goods to the populace? The difference being that corporations did it, rather than the government?

Ding! Ding! Ding! You spotted the difference!

The goal is to get needed products to people in need as quickly as possible, AFAIK.

The state is an absolute failure at that mission.

The market is subject to the laws of physics, last I checked, but it is the best way we have to get stuff where it needs to be.

The Walmart is acting in its best interest when it gets its stores reopened and supplied in disaster zones ASAP, and when it trucks free food and water into disaster zones. Funny thing, that also is in the best interests of starving people without drinking water.

Everyone go read just the 2 pages of Shughart I cited in the Harvey thread: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=2564&hilit=shughar ... 260#p98301

I don't disagree with you, that this is a good thing that happened. However, what happens if you cut government disaster relief, and the local retailers decide not to dish out free goods? Invisible Hand kills kids, and that's cool?

The main thing that I can think of that would stop people from wanting to deliver and sell food, water, gasoline, &c, to distressed people are the moronic and despotic "anti-gouging" laws the virtue-signalers and tyrants like to pass and use to threaten people.

Those laws are nothing more than some more of the strong-arm goons of the gang of crooks running the country.

That part starts at about 30:50 >
