Slight Jbird rant here.
Just about the whole of Western Europe, Canada, Japan, and Taiwan gives better healthcare to the whole population at like half the cost then America does. Sure they all have problems, but what system does not?
We have this super expensive, inefficient, system that does worse with more, and doesn't even really cover everyone. It's a private, public, personal, employer, city, county, state, federal patched up, duct-taped Frankenstein. It is only good at overpaying, and big bonusing healthcare executives, giving fabulous stock dividends, and providing payouts to a gigantic army of pimp lobbyists and political prostitutes.
But we have the best healthcare in the world here in the land of the free and the brave.

Explain again why Danny Williams got his heart surgery in the USA when he could've gotten better care at half the cost in Canada.jbird4049 wrote: Slight Jbird rant here.

And explain to me why some people can't afford their epipens or insulin? That's gone up hundreds of dollars after their production became monopolies?
Anyways, how does having a special heart surgery available mean anything when many either don't have, or have too little medicine care that they die?

For the rich and famous? Yeah, it is the best healthcare you could ask for.Alexander PhiAlipson wrote:Explain again why Danny Williams got his heart surgery in the USA when he could've gotten better care at half the cost in Canada.jbird4049 wrote: Slight Jbird rant here.

I ain't rich nor famous, and I suspect neither are you. Given the choice between bleeding-edge-healthcare nobody but the well off can afford, and slightly shittier at the high-end healthcare that can easily accommodate everyone's basic needs? Yeah, I'll vote for the second option and not have to pay for the flu shots out of my own pocket, thanks.

I know, right? Imagine the horror of just paying for a flu shot out of your own pocket? Much better to pass a new tax on the populace, install ridiculous regulations written by special interests and have govt determine how your taxes will be redistributed to pay for your flu shot.KerningChameleon wrote: Yeah, I'll vote for the second option and not have to pay for the flu shots out of my own pocket, thanks.
Although I do appreciate your honesty. I wonder what else you would vote for the govt to provide for you.

The flu shot is already available for free to many people through their health insurance or employer and if you pay it's only ~$20-30. CVS has a promotion where they'll give you %20 off of everything you buy that day if you also get a flu shot.
If you're immuno-suppressed and need the vaccine you've got bigger worries than 30 bucks and you can easily buy it if you want it.
"Muh free stuff" tho

I'd happily pay for any healthcare out of pocket, if it were subject to competition, and worked as a 'market'. What we currently have looks more like robber barons with their railroads, and the government forcing us to buy tickets.
Either wipe the system (completely impossible), or install universal healthcare (slightly less impossible). This mutated pile of garbage is unacceptable, and will not be fixed by patching little holes in the funding, or Medicare benefits.
