With sad countenance and downcast eyes, Aeneas wends his way, quitting the cavern, and ponders in his mind the dark issues.

I watched "The Admiral" a bit ago with subtitles. It's about the fight of Yi Sun-shin against Japanese invaders of Korea.Mercury wrote:I think I see now, what you're getting at.

Troy could have been so much more...Hwen Hoshino wrote:In the early to mid 2000s. I mean the general public felt that way. Anyone remembers it?
Gladiator and Braveheart are great, and I really enjoyed Kingdom of Heaven. A lot of those historical movies were big decades ago, but the public is mainlining those stupid superhero movies right now, and the studios are basically the dealers happy to supply them with a fix. After watching all those piece of shit avenger movies though, I am convinced they do more damage to your brain than huffing jenkem.

By public you mean people outside the US first and foremost?heydaralon wrote:Troy could have been so much more...Hwen Hoshino wrote:In the early to mid 2000s. I mean the general public felt that way. Anyone remembers it?

I think you mean that short time when you were old enough to see them in cinema but not old enough to realize they were crap. I remember that period as well. Only other movies for me.Hwen Hoshino wrote:In the early to mid 2000s. I mean the general public felt that way. Anyone remembers it?

They were not the best but how do you define a crap movie?Hastur wrote:I think you mean that short time when you were old enough to see them in cinema but not old enough to realize they were crap. Most "historical" Epics are crap. Some are fine if you just disregard the historical pretensions and just see them as fantasy.
Take Braveheart for example. There is so much wrong with it. The cringe factor is unbearable.

That makes it a crap historical movie, does not take away the craft that went into it.Hastur wrote:Most "historical" Epics are crap. Some are fine if you just disregard the historical pretensions and just see them as fantasy.

That is my point. To me a crap historical movie lost it's appeal once I realized how much crap it was.Hwen Hoshino wrote:That makes it a crap historical movie, does not take away the craft that went into it.Hastur wrote:Most "historical" Epics are crap.
