Belarusian citizens have set up their own battalions as they join the defense of Ukraine in their hundreds.

Bad news for Lukashenko, should the invasion fail these would basically be the seeds for an armed rebellion in Belarus.

I find it highly disturbing that after this, Russia will nothing but nukes to fall back on for deterrence.

What shape are those nukes in if the their trucks don't even have fresh tires, the field rations are rancid and they don't have enough shells for their arty?
the reason why the conventional VSRF is sclerotic

is that they divert their resources to the strategic level

they spend most of their money on the Strategic Rocket Troops

and Military-Maritime Fleet Submarine Cruisers

America is their primary adversary, so they prepare to fight that war above all else

the Russian submarine force tends to be judged by one incident now

the loss of the Kursk when a Type 65 torpedo exploded in the weapons compartment

but I wouldn't assume that means they are not extremely capable

America has lost submarines as well

the Thresher & Scorpion

submarines is a dangerous business

in terms of hydrogen bombs

they are actually quite simple

it's not that high tech

it's 1950's tech

the explosive lenses implode the plutonium pit

the uranium tamper : delays

the lithium deteuride fuses

it's probably the most reliable heavy weapon in the inventory

if there is a danger, it's not that the bomb wouldn't detonate

the danger would be accidental detonation if anything

this in fact almost happened with a USAF Titan ICBM in Arkansas back in the 80s

This could be the end of Trumpism too. It's kind of like a mirror in that you can see what Trumpism looks like from the outside. Next time that dingbat woman from Georgia opens her mouth and says stupid shit, it's just going to sound like Putin and people are going to say it. And it's not like these people can somehow pivot their rhetoric to make Trumpism about protecting America from Putin when they spent the past two years praising the guy and defending everything he does.

I watched a good documentary on that a year or two ago. Can’t remember the name of it.

I only saw Trump as a means to an end

a temporary stopgap, least worst option vs Hillary Clinton

I didn't endorse him

but NukeDog said "Pascal's wager" how can he be worse than Clinton ?

I didn't have an argument against that

I didn't find Trump to be a big deal mind you, basically a Reagan Democrat, same as he ever was

I can't believe we're talking about Trump when 1 year into FJB, the world is at an end. Jesus Christ. I want Trump back NOW

see I think it's too late

Trump was an effective bulwark preventing this from happening in the first place

but now that it has happened, Trump can't put the genie back in the bottle
