If the President can violate his oath to the constitution, by selling arms to the enemies of the republic, in order to fund unlawful military actions in contravention of the congress, then no President is that, that there is an absolute monarch by any other name.

If you can get away with that, you can get away with anything, to include ignoring the electoral college and retaining power in lieu of democracy.
