I wonder how the investigation by HRH's Sprechpolizei into today's editorial will go.
AFTER MANCHESTER: IT’S TIME FOR ANGER
Wake the fuck up Britain. After the terror, the platitudes. And the hashtags. And the candlelit vigils. And they always have the same message: ‘Be unified. Feel love. Don’t give in to hate.’ The banalities roll off the national tongue. Vapidity abounds. A shallow fetishisation of ‘togetherness’ takes the place of any articulation of what we should be together for – and against. And so it has been after the barbarism in Manchester. In response to the deaths of more than 20 people at an Ariana Grande gig, in response to the massacre of children enjoying pop music, people effectively say: ‘All you need is love.’ The disparity between these horrors and our response to them, between what happened and what we say, is vast. This has to change.
. . .
Stop and think about how strange it is, how perverse it is, that more than 20 of our citizens have been butchered and we are basically saying: ‘Everyone calm down. Love is the answer.’ Where’s the rage? If the massacre of children and their parents on a fun night out doesn’t make you feel rage, nothing will. The terrorist has defeated you. You are dead already.

If it's from the UK, the government might try to shut them down after publishing that.

Probably the better quote from that editorial:
Read the whole thing, give em a click. Like Carolina said, they may not be around at sundown. As part of the post-terror narrative, our emotions are closely policed. Some emotions are celebrated, others demonised. Empathy – good. Grief – good. Sharing your sadness online – great. But hatred? Anger? Fury? These are bad. They are inferior forms of feeling, apparently, and must be discouraged. Because if we green-light anger about terrorism, then people will launch pogroms against Muslims, they say, or even attack Sikhs or the local Hindu-owned cornershop, because that’s how stupid and hateful we apparently are. But there is a strong justification for hate right now. Certainly for anger. For rage, in fact. Twenty-two of our fellow citizens were killed at a pop concert. I hate that, I hate the person who did it, I hate those who will apologise for it, and I hate the ideology that underpins such barbarism. I want to destroy that ideology. I don’t feel sad, I feel apoplectic. Others will feel likewise, but if they express this verboten post-terror emotion they risk being branded as architects of hate, contributors to future terrorist acts, racist, and so on. Their fury is shushed. ‘Just weep. That’s your role.’

No, I'm providing a reason why bombed-out shells of human beings are pissed at us. And yes, given our government's fanatical devotion to Israel, many of those conflicts are, in fact, based in religion. Evangelicals trying to prod Christ into rolling down by bombing the infidels.heydaralon wrote:Lol the Iraq was wasn't a religious war. The Evangelicals were very supportive of it, but they generally very supportive of our armed forces, so by that logic all American conflicts would be religious wars. You are trying to equate a war, while pointless, to domestic terrorism.GrumpyCatFace wrote:No, different interpretations of their own chosen 'holy book'.heydaralon wrote:
Just out of curiosity, do you think the tens of thousands of Iraqis who died in the sectarian war that followed were murdering each other over different interpretations of the Bible? Do you think the American soldiers there were fighting because of a papal bull?
Papal bull? Goodness no. Just the dictates of a decentralized Protestant religious fanatacism, not Catholic - goodness me.
I could have pulled any number of stats from Israel/Palestine (backed by our fundamentalists), various oil conflicts and uprisings created by our IC shadow gov, the civil rights era (if you want something domestic), the crusades (for history), Wars of the Reformation, on and on and on...
Christians have absolutely no shortage of atrocities to match those of the Muslims. That's my main point.
Point of order, no. I was comparing the (presumably) Protestant girl with the bible and rifle to the earlier-posted picture of an arab kid with 2 rifles. Why are we supposed to be so frightened of that image, and not the other? You tried to make the comparison of a protestant girl with a bible and a rifle to a muslim bombing a concert. When I called you on it, you started talking about Christian religious wars from 400 years ago, and geopolitical conflicts that have very little to do with religion. You are like the false equivalency king right now.
The crusades were one of a dozen conflicts that I could have used, as an alternative to the Iraq invasions, as I pointed out. The mere fact that I mentioned them does not invalidate my entire argument, or tie me to whatever goofiness you've witnessed elsewhere. You realize that the Crusades were a response to the seizure of Christian cities by Muslims right? I'm not defending the action one way or the other, but this narrative of Christian persecution of Muslims that the media perpetuates every time this kind of thing happens is ridiculous. The crusades have nothing to do with detonating a nail bomb on innocent bystanders.
And yeah, while we're on it, the Crusades were a major holy war between Muslims and Christians, and a pretty shameful display for the European church, on all accounts. Kids were used, allied cities were sacked throughout the journey, countless men, women, and children slaughtered to feed the armies - even before the conquests actually began. A complete shitshow.

Hopefully, if GCF is sitting in a Sbarro and he hears somebody scream Alahu Akbar before the explosion, his last thought will be the knowledge that I will be in here discussing the irony of his death.
I'd fight to the death to defend those around me, if possible. Never go quietly. In the end though, it would be a freak occurence - just like getting hit by lightning, or encountering an escaped lion. Buy a lotto ticket in my name, and give a piece to my kids.
