Patriotism isn't an ethical 'good' itself in the face of an existential threat. You aren't going to convince anybody who believes the earth is actually in danger of becoming unlivable by telling them that 'patriots' shouldn't give a shit. Even patriots with a wit of sense don't think patriotism is inherently good; they think it has positive, pro-social (one might say 'collectivist' if they wanted to be shitty) effects.
