Ah, Nookyuhler. A fine example of a technology that the gub'ment had a hand in developing, and that we don't exactly want the market regulating and maintaining without oversight.clubgop wrote:Yeah it like the white elephant in the room, Instead of giving money to NK and Iran by the billions for nuclear "power" why don't we do the same?StCapps wrote:Not inherently, but it often is a boondoggle, because solar and wind aren't ready for primetime, for the most part, the environmentalists just wish that they were, but wishful thinking doesn't make it so.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:
New technologies are often subsidized because R&D is expensive, and not initially profitable. That isn't inherently a boondoggle.
Throwing money at boondoggles in the name of R&D is as stupid as throwing money at boondoggles for any other noble reason, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, good intentions don't always equal good results.
The mighty atom should certainly be a part of American energy infrastructure. And we can still invest in renewable and green energies: win, win, win.
HAIL!
Her needs America so they won't just take his shit away like in some pussy non gun totting countries can happen.

No not really. Nuclear is also heavily subsidized and extremely expensive to build. All the benefits are on the backend. But the end result yields tremendous power that other forms of "green" energy are unnecessary.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:Ah, Nookyuhler. Scare quotes aside, improving the yield of renewable and low polluting energy production so we aren't entirely reliant on either fossil fuels or nuclear power is a good idea, long term. Being intransigent over Federal investment in those technologies is just absurd.clubgop wrote:No not really. Nuclear is also heavily subsidized and extremely expensive to build. Birds are gay, and I am pretty sure the strength of the sun's rays don't change based on the amount of solar panels on Earth. Also, dams are badass. We haven't built a proper dam in this country in far too long.clubgop wrote:I like birds and I dont like skin cancer. I like fish. Hydro is all the excuse of nuclear with very little output.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:Birds are gay, and I am pretty sure the strength of the sun's rays don't change based on the amount of solar panels on Earth. You're right. We should base energy policy on which animals we like. Very progressive.clubgop wrote:I like fish.
