They brought in the new producer director team, and they went hard SJW, it didn't flop, but it isn't living up to the hype neither, I wouldn't be surprised if JJ Abrams in brought back in for SW IX, to get it back on track, with the tried and true formula.

Yeah you're not the only one waiting for Jew Jew Abrahams to come back. He's actually not all that bad imo.

But I really think they can't keep doing that trilogy arc over and over. The first attempt sucked and this one started off ok and then bombed. They need something new. Most likely they will just do little side stories every year like the fan fiction used to do. Then maybe once a decade they will return to the trilogy arc.

For the fanbois, Star Wars is a fetish, they don't want it messed with, the studio handed control to a guy who went CNN in Space, and the fanbois are spitting out the bit, the formula is nostalgia, they don't want a new Star Wars, even if they are SJW's they don't want a new Star Wars, so I'm betting the studio reverses itself again, to go back to the JJ Abrams drill.

In Force Awakens, Harrison Ford was the star, it was all about Han Solo, you got Han Solo, it's money in the bank, but Harrison Ford actually despises Star Wars, so he wanted out, so they killed him off.

Rey was just the sidekick, she wasn't the star of the show, they still had Alpha Solo for one more kick at the can. At the end of the movie, Abrams said "hey, don't worry, I still got Luke Skywalker for you, Rey is just a sidekick, don't panic".

But then the new guy came in, and said "fuck Luke Skywalker, he's not an alpha anymore, he's a beta now, it's all about Rey" and suddenly the boosters have started to misfire.

The core audience is tweenage boys, if you kill the alpha, you're playing with box office fire.
