Just a rental anyways, it's basically a 2nd for Plekanec on a rental, like Brian Boyle.
I was taken aback, cuz Plekanec is Mr. Hab, but that's a pretty elite 4C to have, Tomas Plekanec.

Apparently they wanted to trade him to Winnipeg, but Plekanec wanted to stay in the Eastern Confernece.Smitty-48 wrote:Just a rental anyways, it's basically a 2nd for Plekanec on a rental, like Brian Boyle.

I'll take Plekanec for the 4C, good man, good pro, he's Mr. Hab, but he's always been a class act in Montreal, and he's a cut above Glendening that's fo sho.

That's a late 2nd too, so more like Plakanec for a 3rd. Rychel and Valiev was just a throw in, perhaps they turn into something for Montreal, but I didn't see them making the Leafs.
Kind of excited actually, I was thinking grinder, but Plakanec is more like Bozak with a defensive conscience. Plekanec with Kapanen is a scoring threat.
Can play anywhere up and down the line up, and even tho he's lost a step, still a highly skilled player, give him some better options to play with and I think he can still do some damage.

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
JVR-Bozak-Kapanen
Komarov-Plekanec-Brown
Martin/Moore.
Not bad actually, roll four lines out the door, no actual 4th line, 4th line is more like a second 3rd line. And seven available centres if you include Patty Marleau.

It's a better option than Boyle was, I mean, I like Boyle, but he doesn't have much offensive upside, whereas Plekanec could fill Bozak's slot in a pinch.

The other thing is, there's only about $750,000 left to pay on Plekanec's contract this year, so the Leafs still have about $5.75 million in cap room for tomorrow if something else becomes available.

If you're looking for a rental player, then Plekanec is a good snag. Way better deal than the Bruins trading for Nash, that's for damn sure.
