I'm not against background checks, age restrictions & waiting periods.
No problem there from me. Those things would not have stopped Las Vegas though.

Think the dude past like 30 FBI background checks over the years.

That's the point, it doesn't matter how many protections you put into place, people will always find a way around it if they want to.

On fast food, or guns?
Because one of them kills countless Americans every year, and the other you have a Constitutional right to own.

Are you high?

We've done nothing but restrict the 2nd Amendment since it's inception.
You all are back again asking for more restrictions, because every batch of restrictions you've pushed through since the writing of the Constitution has failed to stop lawless criminals from committing gun crimes.
And you have the audacity to approach the argument like "WELL CAN WE HAVE ANY RESTRICTIONS?!?!"

Holy shit.
Florida drugs must be way better these days than they were when I was there.
They definitely are better, but those handguns need to be banned asap
Why not ban cars, or knives first?
Guns are a serious problem both on and offline. Whenever I play Counter Strike source, i always play on the counter terrorist team, but because the terrorists always camp out on the roof overlooking my spawn point they are able to take me out with a silenced m16. Every damn time. This is not even taking into account the sniper rifles they use. Its not fair thatI should keep getting sniped time and time again on the crackhouse or fy_iceworld levels. I think a ban on all automatic guns on counter strike would be a fine start to fix this epidemic of virtual gin violence. If a player is caught using an M16 or AK on those maps, they should get a five year ban from playing any steam games. I would be fine with banning knives on there too, because people always jump around and stab me when Im trying to take them out.

Look, I am trying to get a handle on the whole conversation. I'm not very well versed in all the various restrictions, and when some of you talk, you sound as if you would be okay with absolutely no restrictions.

So, excuse me while I'm over here trying to educate myself on what restrictions make sense and which don't. I'm not spouting an opinion because I don't have one, because I am not knowledgeable enough about guns to know what restrictions make sense.

I believe in background checks, waiting periods & age restrictions. Beyond that, I'm not sure what is actually helpful.

I am in the same boat, the main difference is I distrust any government to the point where I am not willing to give them free access to power.

If Trump ever wants to go full fucking Hitler, I'd rather the communist come to the fight armed so there may be some valor to be had.

Well maybe you should defer to the people that actually know what they are talking about and realize the anti gun people aren't among them. What you want, you already have. Background checks? Check. Age restrictions? Check. Waiting periods? Check. So what are you whining about?

They just haven't done any good and, in the case of things like gun-free zones, make the situation much worse, possibly costing lives.

Propose something that actually curbs violent crime and you'd get traction. Focusing on the weapon of choice is a waste of time, as the example of the UK shows quite clearly.

I'm not whining. If you read more carefully, I'm asking if YOU support those restrictions or, if not, which restrictions, if any, you do support.

I don't support additional regulations. Stop saying I do. I come here to learn. (My mistake, this re-entry may be short-lived.) I want to present a case to friends who want guns banned, but I can't get a straight answer from anyone on which regulations make sense and which don't, which are in place already and which aren't.

I don't currently have a good argument on why new bans won't work, so I don't try to challenge people in my world. I would, though, if I could get straight answers. If all you want to do is bash me for opinions I don't have, though, well, I'll leave you to it.

I used to think gun control was the answer. My research told me otherwise.

Before I started researching gun deaths, gun-control policy used to frustrate me. I wished the National Rifle Association would stop blocking common-sense gun-control reforms such as banning assault weapons, restricting silencers, shrinking magazine sizes and all the other measures that could make guns less deadly.

Then, my colleagues and I at FiveThirtyEight spent three months analyzing all 33,000 lives ended by guns each year in the United States, and I wound up frustrated in a whole new way. We looked at what interventions might have saved those people, and the case for the policies I’d lobbied for crumbled when I examined the evidence. The best ideas left standing were narrowly tailored interventions to protect subtypes of potential victims, not broad attempts to limit the lethality of guns.

I researched the strictly tightened gun laws in Britain and Australia and concluded that they didn’t prove much about what America’s policy should be. Neither nation experienced drops in mass shootings or other gun related-crime that could be attributed to their buybacks and bans. Mass shootings were too rare in Australia for their absence after the buyback program to be clear evidence of progress. And in both Australia and Britain, the gun restrictions had an ambiguous effect on other gun-related crimes or deaths. . . .
