Is it possible to create an atmosphere on the Moon ?

Someone had to have thought of that.
We have one because of a magnetosphere thanks to an active core. Mars and Luna are both dead inside so the tech required to do this artificially is hundreds of years in the future.
Mars is home to the biggest volcano in the solar system. Might not be completely dead...

It's not active anymore is it? I've never heard of any active volcanoes on mars.

Not for a few million years now. Maybe still possible. There is still a somewhat active core.

During the opposition of 1894 a great light was seen on the illuminated part of the disk, first at the Lick Observatory, then by Perrotin of Nice, and then by other observers. English readers heard of it first in the issue of Nature dated August 2. I am inclined to think that this blaze may have been the casting of the huge gun, in the vast pit sunk into their planet, from which their shots were fired at us. Peculiar markings, as yet unexplained, were seen near the site of that outbreak during the next two oppositions.

The storm burst upon us six years ago now. As Mars approached opposition, Lavelle of Java set the wires of the astronomical exchange palpitating with the amazing intelligence of a huge outbreak of incandescent gas upon the planet. It had occurred towards midnight of the twelfth; and the spectroscope, to which he had at once resorted, indicated a mass of flaming gas, chiefly hydrogen, moving with an enormous velocity towards this earth. This jet of fire had become invisible about a quarter past twelve. He compared it to a colossal puff of flame suddenly and violently squirted out of the planet, “as flaming gases rushed out of a gun.”

No matter. We'll never get anywhere at this rate.

I would start the clock at ships with actual propulsion systems. I think that might be Cassini probe. Not sure.

Just launching a dude into orbit I don't consider space travel. Still in Earth orbit. No propulsion other than the rocket that got you into orbit.

We really have not even begun. Plus the government shut down Dyson with that stupid test ban treaty. That's why we got nowhere fast.

We’re running into harder portions of the laws of physics - we will need theory of everything before we can even realistically have two way ftl travel times - no one wants to hop on a one way 70 yr trip to some planet that may or may not be habital -

However - String theory (including its major varients of Super and M) looks promising - next gen of atom smashers may be able to test them.

A working theory of everything means we will know (for the most part) how gravity works and interacts with EMF.

Perhaps then, we may be able to manipulate gravity.
