This is a very entertaining look into the history of Greece.

The guy is not a master broadcaster and has these one second flashes where he turns into an 8th grader and says "excape" or says "though" for no reason. But other than that, solid.

I'm not sure about the sourcing, but he creates a vivid picture of Greek belief. First one I listened to was the underwold. Sort of half way between Christianity and Buddhism I guess. The dead are shadows of themselves, often stuck in one moment, their fate largely determined by their deeds. However, it is not good for anybody.

The one on Dionysus is also griping and full of vivid and depraved details.

There was kind of an interesting discussion about it on his contact me page. People begged him to stop sporadically sounding retarded. He says it is a regional dialect and it's their problem.

I think part of it is also (maybe?) he reads a lot but doesn't verbalize it, since he sometimes pronounces fancy words wrong in that way, where it sounds like he knows the word well, but it is pronounced a little differently than you would think if you'd only read it. (Think we've all been there).

Maybe he is also a little dyslexic. The regional dialect thing just doesn't cover it.

Anyway, this is evergreen material that could reach a really big audience over the years. I think it would be wise to sell out a little and bury that "regional dialect" in most cases.

It's funny how some dialects get a pass and others raise red flags, depending on the role. As a broadcaster, you can have a regional accent, like Dan Rather, but only a "smart" one.

I've become hooked on The Pirate History Podcast. Everyone who likes a long form history show should check it out. Matt Albers makes a great podcast. Good production, the right amount of background, comprehensive and the right length of the episodes.

Grab a mug of rum and enjoy. Yargh!

Nice find, Hastur!
I've only listened to the first four episodes (introduction included); it saddens me to acknowledge how much simple history he feels compelled to cover before getting to his intended subject matter, but this dude's got it going on!

Dave Smith's most recent show is a take down of gun control nonsense following Vegas and Texas, up through the fist 48 minutes.

For a ridiculously thorough evisceration of board-beloved stooge Colbert, go to 48:35. "Socialism AIN'T Sharing," and it's delicious.

There's even a kindly rebuke of Jordan Peterson at the very end.
