Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
Honest question, what's the "worst" he's going to do?
Take guns from the mentally ill?
Take guns from the mentally ill?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

You act like this is new, but he already said "Take the guns of people on the no-fly list" . . . and there's no due process involved in getting on that list, and no way to get off.Fife wrote:
So ... I wouldn't be surprised that all the folks who were outraged the first time aren't re-outraged this time. Like . . . how many times do you have to outrage over the same thing?
I was irate the first time he said take guns without due process, now I'm just like "Yep, that's his thing, man".

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
this school isnt arming teachers but has armed 20 administrators, seems to be working, so far
i dont necessarily support arming teachers but it's hardly the stupidest idea i've heard, no stupider than thinking you can ban school shootings with government legislationHOW ONE WA SCHOOL DISTRICT IS ALREADY ARMING ADMINISTRATORS

The Toppenish School District on the Yakima Reservation has been allowing educators to carry concealed firearms on campus since 2014.
The idea came during the Sandy Hook shooting. As Superintendent John Cerna watched the coverage on TV he asked, "How are we going to keep our kids safe?"
"It's fairly easy. You can teach people how to shoot a gun. It's hard to teach people when not to shoot a gun," said Jon Ladines a security consultant with training experience across the country and into Central America.
His plan for Toppenish, and a handful of other districts since then, is a multi-faceted approach called gap training. In the event of an armed attacker at school, what should teachers do? Where should they go? What kind of training should they have? The idea is to buy time until police arrive and take over. Introducing firearms is only a small part of the plan but it's a controversial one in this country.
"I'm not a cop. That's not my job. That's not my training. But I'm also not ignorant. And the world has changed, which means education has to evolve with it," said Toppenish High School Principal Shawn Meyers.
There are 19 administrators who've been certified to carry a gun on campus. The only one who does it publicly is Superintendent Cerna. The other 18 are anonymous, for security reasons. Ladines says they all are highly trained shots with extensive training.
So far, Toppenish hasn't armed any teachers and there aren't any plans to do so, but Superintendent Cerna says a lot of teachers have shown interest in participating. For now, he's happy with how his system is working and thinks his district is among the safest in the state, if not the country.

Arming the "teachers" the government schools employ is pretty damn dumb. But nowhere near as dumb as forcing children into the government shooting-pens 180 days a year at the point of an even bigger gun.Penner wrote:Arming teachers is the stupidest idea I have heard yet on this "debate" about gun control.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
The problem is that teachers have an obligation to protect students in their classrooms. They cannot abandon their students to engage an active shooter. Additionally, I am just not seeing the efficacy of however many random people coordinating to take down an active shooter with no communications or really even a plan. Cops are supposed to train to be able to operate like a proper squad. That type of action is a kind of job unto itself.
It's not that I am totally against the Idea of arming a teacher if she is competent and responsible. I just think people are operating on unrealistic expectations of what armed teachers can actually accomplish. It might not be as effective as they'd imagine (probably will not be), and at worst it could be disastrous with random armed people mistakenly shooting at each other, or some other such debacle.

Only a matter of time before a student gets shot over a schoolyard fight or something.Speaker to Animals wrote:The problem is that teachers have an obligation to protect students in their classrooms. On the other hand, it's hard to imagine that the teachers could be much worse than the cops...

$31,000 for a dining set ? Oy.
