Smitty - you just basically said that Trudeau gives Trump a baby bottle with his favorite juice before talking to him. Lol

Trudeau treats Trump the way that Weyoun would, pretty much. It's the way to play it, and it works way better on Trump than it does on Sisko, bet that. Trump likes to be liked.

I think he just listens to Trump, rather than trying to lecture Trump, or tell Trump how things should be, or try to gain at Trump's expense by humiliating him, Trudeau simply lets Trump have his due, let the client express their position and ensure that they know you are respectful of that position, and then present your position, firmly, but with respect.

That's how business is done, for the rest of the politicians in the West, it's politics, but for Canada, this is business, Trump is a businessman, Trudeau is tailoring the Canadian response to that paradigm, and rightly so.

If you want to do business with Trump, make like Weyoun, he's a sucker for that shit, so go heavy on the hollow pleasantries.

If you want to do business with anybody, you give them their due, how many successful business meetings have you had, where you took a big dump on the clients carpet and slapped them upside the head?

Sure, if your position is insecure at home and business is coming second to cravenly clinging to power, you might try to gain at Trump's expense and pile on with the Democrats and NeverTrumps, but Trudeau has the juice to not bother with that, and so just keep things businesslike without getting personal.

The Dominion also had the juice to handle it that way, if Weyoun didn't work there was always the Jem'Hadar to be the stick, the Vorta are the carrot.
Trump likes carrots, so if you got the juice, give him some.

Give him his carrot, doesn't cost us a thing, business is business, getting rid of Trump is not actually an imperative for the Liberals, in fact, Trump is good for them.

They would like to shake some things up as well, Trump is giving them the political cover to do it. Trump is a populist who plays the protectionist card with his constituents, and so are the Liberals, they're totally down for that too.

The whole bugaboo about the Liberals being internationalists is a myth, they're not actually, they're exactly the same as Trump, they just present it in a different package.

Trump calls it #Winning, Trudeau calls it #SunnyWays, but the two populist platforms are practically identical in substance at the end of the day.

Strip away the facile distractions, and Trump and Trudeau are two peas in the same populist pod.

Tax cuts means what to you? Seriously if giving more money back to the people and less to the government is a problem, then perhaps we need to give the government a weight loss program?
Mmhmm, says the goobers who have run up a twenty trillion dollar debt, and counting.

The vast majority of the budget, trillion dollars in defense pork, trillion dollars in healthcare, and a trillion dollars in corporate welfare, is spent on the donor class, who the GOP are the lickspittle cronies of, hence the whole "run up the debt" part of the equation.
Nope, the entitlements are what the debt is made of. Healthcare, food stamps, ss, all of it is coporate welfare by another name. That is Dem lickspittle crony territory. Salt, Salt, Salt, ......

Maybe when can get you guys to come down here and teach us this new game that is a combination of curling and a board game
You vastly overrate NAFTA as a stick, the Liberals are perfectly prepared to walk away from it, NAFTA is a mixed bag, there's winners and losers in NAFTA, the Liberals can play either side of that fence, trying to bully Canada on NAFTA is not working, the Liberals well know that it cuts both ways, and even if Trump invokes the NAFTA pull out clause, Zombie NAFTA carries on in any case, because it's not actually in America's interest to have a broad front trade war with Canada, that would backfire on many American districts, so it wouldn't happen.

There's plenty of protectionism with NAFTA in place, there would be plenty of trade without NAFTA, it's not that big a deal, Canada can go either way, NAFTA or no NAFTA, it's not an existential issue.

It's really the Mexicans who lose if NAFTA goes away, Canada doesn't actually take much of a hit.
Yeah USA-Canada side of NAFTA is almost a non factor. If it goes away I say me, you trade agreement same as it ever was. It doesn't have to be a brexit thing.
