Whew! Leafs take two from the Kings, play the full sixty, wasn't pretty, but they gotter done, huge win for the Leafs, LA is back, baby, just like I said they would be, so that was no gimme, Leafs had to scratch and claw for it, Johnny Quick is no easy out yo.

You know what the best part of that Marleau goal was? He beats Alec Martinez, one of the best skaters on the Kings, to the puck on the forecheck, and then feeds it back to Kadri in the slot; still got the wheels of a guy half his age, this Patty Marleau.

He used to be one of the fastest players in the NHL, and wheels haven't fallen off just yet, he's still plenty fast, for now.

Well there you have it. I thought they would've given DeSmith a shot. He's been playing better. Either way I'm happy.
DeSmith is not ready, if you throw a guy like that to the wolves, you're just gonna get rinsed and destroy his confidence, Jarry is next up in the depth chart, for good reason.
Looks like I was right. DeSmith is the first one called up. He's 26 so if he's going to every be in the NHL its now or never. Plus he's been playing great for the baby pens.

He still one of the fastest players in the NHL, he's been chasing elite skating forwards down on the backcheck, catching them and stripping the puck, slightly slower Patty Marleau is still faster than most players in the league.

Says they're going to alternate, but his AHL save percentage is the same as Jarry's over the past two seasons, Jarry has played 50% more games, Jarry's career percentage is better, and Jarry is bigger, so I don't think you're right, I don't think he's actually better than Jarry, I don't think he's ahead of Jarry in the depth chart, if they're calling up DeSmith first, then they are probably planning to just play Murray, and so they're keeping Jarry down so he doesn't just sit.

If you look at the numbers, Jarry is actually better, DeSmith had a 2.01/.926 but he only stopped 729 shots in 29 games, Jarry had a 2.15/.925, but he stopped 1203 shots in 45 games playing over a thousand more minutes than DeSmith, DeSmith is actually the backup in the AHL.

Jarry was an elite goalie in the WHL, 44th overall pick, he's actually another blue chip prospect who is a tradeable asset for the Pens, since they're pretty much committed to Murray, DeSmith is a journeyman, he's not an NHL goalie.

I said that DeSmith is playing better right now, not that his the better player long term.

You know what could be an even more aggressive option? Sell high on Murray, trade him to Winnipeg, for Jacob Trouba, go with Jarry and veteran instead.

3 games, guy, you can't go on 3 AHL games at the beginning of the season when AHL stars are still up with their NHL teams, he's played better for what, 184 minutes? Sample size that small tells you nothing

Jarry is ahead of him in the depth chart, for a reason, the reason to call up DeSmith over Jarry, is because DeSmith is just going to sit and they don't want Jarry to sit, but if Murray goes down, Jarry is going in, not DeSmith, DeSmith is the backup in the AHL, he's not there to start in the NHL, he's just there to sit on the bench, because they're gonna play the shit out of Murray.

If either DeSmith or Jarry starts over Murray at all, that's a bad sign, because that means that they are in panic mode over Murray, NHL starter should play 65 games, if they feel the need to start someone other than Murray before they can find another veteran backup, that's bad ju-ju.

If that was in fact the case, like I said, they should think about selling high on Murray then, going with Jarry as the goalie of the future, pick up a serviceable veteran in the interim, and get another A grade asset skater instead, Winnipeg is desperate for a goalie, they could get Trouba+ for Murray, and still win the Cup again with Jarry.

No way the Leafs are getting Manson out of Anaheim, but tell you what, I'd take a look at Bieksa as a depth rental option.

Superman Punch on Gudas last night; yes guy, two hit fight, Bieksa hitting Gudas, Gudas hitting the ice.
