Nothing, except when you purchase you don't purchase individuals normally, you buy bulk. So for $1,000 lets say you get 10,000 people's metadata and surfing history.

Use a reputable VPN. Free ones are nice, but often overwhelmed, and also not too trustworthy (nothing in life is free).

I recommend paying for a decent VPN, you can go further anonymous by buying a MC/Visa gift card with cash, then using that to pay for the VPN.

You might want to configure your network connection to use a DNS you trust (when not on VPN). A lot of your internet traffic can be determined by DNS requests, and if you are using your ISP, it just gives them more detail on your browsing history.
